Xbox DVD Player compared to Panasonic A-300

I have an old Panasonic DVD-A300 which was their top of the line model when it first arrived. I was wondering what anyone on this forum would have to say about the image quality of the Xbox DVD Player compared to the model above that I mentioned? Progressive scan doesn't mean a thing to me since my Panasonic 27 flat screen does not support it.

I'm not sure how the Xbox differs from the PS2, as being a DVD-Video player. If the Xbox is "on par" with the PS2, it should work fine for your needs, even though it would probably not match the video performance of a similarliy priced dedicated DVD-Video player.

Keep in mind, the Xbox is a gamin machine first and foremost and that is where it will excel.

Yes, you DID "inherit" a DVD-Video player as well, but that's not to say it's as "good" as a dedicated DVD-Video player.

Again, this is "assuming" the Xbox DVD-Video performance is "on par" with the PS2 video performance.

Even with this, if you're happy with the video performance of the Xbox, then more power to you!

Peace.....

Unfortunately, while the XBox is capable of widescreen 480p (and higher) output for game graphics, and has plenty of CPU power, Microsoft elected to not allow the XBox to output DVDs in progressive scan 480p. However, the video subsystem is more than capable and might actually rival a dedicated DVD player. I should do an A/B comparison between my player and a friend's XBox...

If you do, please be sure to record and post the make/model/size of the TV used, the standalone DVD player used, and the Xbox used. If the TV _has_ been calibrated, please indicate how (i.e. which tool, if not ISF).

Thanks!

Peace......
