How many "miles" does you DVD player have on it?

If your DVD player was a car, how many miles would you say you have put on it? I got my Panasonic Christmas 1999 and I have collected about 132 DVD titles since then. My player would probably be approaching 100,000 miles. I have watched almost all my DVDs 2 - 3 times each. I also get to most of the supplements (primarily the commentaries). On top of that, my wife and I rent about 5 - 6 DVDs a month through Netflix. To say the least, I've got my money's worth.

If I go by your odometer, I had probably 150,000 miles on my first DVD player, having it for 4 years since August 1998, and just recently giving it to my brother, who is just beginning to get into DVDs. I've played the 200+ DVDs in my collection, along with renting probably over 600 DVDs during that period. I used to average about 12-to-15 rentals per month during my 2.5 year Netflix membership.

Probably 100 miles on the brand new Toshiba player downstairs.

Probably 25,000 on the dvd-rom.

Probably 60,000 on the ps2.

If you go by the edge of the disc, it will do 0.18m every rotation, and at an average RPM of 350, you will do 65.97m in one minute. Providing your DVD player is running at 1x. In an average movie (2hour) you can expect your edge of the DVD to pass around 8km - 5 mile. Multiply by the numbers of DVDs watched, and you have you odometer.

Edit: 5 mile, 2 hours... 2.5 mph, that doesn't make sense??

Hmnmm... good question. How about if we establish a guideline. Say 1 disc = 1 mile. So for a multi-disc set, each disc that gets played ALL THE WAY THROUGH = 1 mi. If you watch the same disc 5 times, that's 5 mi (provided you watch that disc all the way through each time).

Partial disc viewings count as .5 mi. You get the idea.

Does that sound fair to you guys?

Given the above, my Pioneer DV-656a (bought in October 2002 I believe) has about 25 mi on it. my Pioneer PVD-LC10 (bought in June 2000) has about 5 - 6 mi on it. My Pioneer DVL-919 (bougt January 2000) has about 400 - 450 mi on it.

Peace.....
