2003 - What will you (or want to) upgrade?
First off, Happy New Year to all !
Well it's almost 2003 and I've just gotta ask......For your HT, what do you plan on upgrading, or, what would you like to upgrade given the following choices ?I'll get things rolling... If I could, I would upgrade my Sharp LCD projector. |

I plan to upgrade...
RECEIVER: Onkyo TX-DS494 to a Denon AVR-1803 or Onkyo TX-SR600. DVD PLAYER: Pioneer 656A to a Pioneer Elite 45A SPEAKRES: Polk R-Series to Polk RTi Series. The receiver upgrade will happen relatively soon. The DVD player, probably once I sell my old one. The speakers qualify for Circuit City's upgrade plan, so their initial purchase price goes towards the new speakers. Hopefully this will all be completed this year, but who's to say. |

I voted for the WRONG thing...
![]() I _should_ have voted for surround speakers, but voted for A/V receiver. I would like to upgrade my A/V receiver to a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX or a VSX-49TX(i), but I really can't afford it. I would also like to upgrade from my Pioneer DV-656a to a Pioneer Elite DV-45a . I would also like to upgrade my speaker setup by going with a 7.1 config, but I don't really have the space for it... ![]() Great poll! Peace....

I might look into speakers at some point, my receiver is fine for the time being so my next big buy will be a new TV... we are moving back to the UK in January so a nice shiny new widescreen will be making it's way into our family next year

Three upgrades are planned for 2003.
In January a Denon AVR-5803 A/V receiver will replace the crappy JVC receiver I have now. Two Bi-Pole speakers will be added to fill out the 7.1 setup, most likely Polk Audio FXi50 surround speakers. Soon to follow will be an SVS 16-46PC+ subwoofer, but if finances allow two might be added. ![]() P.S.: Why not change the poll so people can vote for more than one upgrade? |

I'll be adding a HTPC in the next few months for sure. And I might buy some SVC subs, just for fun..because the price is right.
![]() Other than that, probably not too much. The next big thing to upgrade would be the receiver. I would like to go to seperates and replace my current Yamaha DSP A1, but I'm looking at going higher end, like McIntosh and probably will not do it this year.

I can always update my TV but i'm good with the 25 inch RCA for now. I think the only thing i will want to upgrade are my surrounds/centre speaker. I have updated recently on most of my Home Theater system and will hopefully get pictures of the new stuff set-up soon.
But this is what i have done over just the past 2-3 weeks. What i did have: THEN: RCA RT2280 Dolby Digital NOW: Black Marantz SR4300 DD EX, DTS ES, CS II ![]() Black Mission 771e Front Speakers Velodyne CHT-8 Subwoofer So far i am very happy with my upgrades

At Income Tax time, I plan to do some upgrading. I hope to replace my TEAC ProLogic receiver with something digital. After that, I'll be looking for a Subwoofer. And maybe I'll get some new speakers before the end of '03.

well, since you didn't give an option to go with multiple upgrades, I chose Pre-amp. I want to upgrade to a Pre-amp and amps. Maybe if funds allow, I might also upgrade my center speaker. I also want to upgrade my Vid card to the Radion 9700 Pro
Other than that, I am pretty happy with my otehr speakers...j

Some time this year, I will have to get a new a/v receiver. The current crappy JVC one is failing me but I've had it for 8 years so I got my money's worth. The center channel on JVC keeps going out and I have to go to the back of the receiver and wiggle with the right/left audio cables and it comes back on. Its very inconvenient.
I am thinking about replacing the JVC with a cool Denon but we'll see. I want to get one with a DTS ES and DD EX decoding.

Last year I went from a 27" tube to a 43" 4:3 'tabletop' rear projection HDTV.
Last year I ugraded my HTIAB subwoofer to a 12" Sony SA-WM40. Last year I went from a crappy HTIAB 'dolby digital ready' receiver to a shiny new Sony STR-DA4ES 7.1 receiver. This year I'd like to upgrade at least my (HTIAB) main speakers bundled to something better, and likely my center to maintain a consistent front soundstage. This will free up at least a pair of speakers for rear surrounds. This year I'd like to upgrade my subwoofer again, to a homebrew model or to a low end SVS. This year I'll definately be upgrading my remote control(s) to either a Pronto Neo or an MX-500.

definetly getting a WS TV.
my JVC 27 inch is starting to get ugly spots. after the tax check comes, i'm taking my happy butt to best buy to get me some video bliss. leaning on a panasonic, as my DVD player is and i've been very happy with it's performance thus far. (gonna upgrade the player to a progressive scan right after the TV also)

I would love to get rid of my Sony Wega I bought this summer. I have been lessed than pleased with it.
But, I am definately looking into a new reciever and speakers. For speakers, its going to be Polk. I think they have like a $400 or $500 set, I will most likely pick those up. I need a new reciever so i can switch Component Inputs, mine right now is only S-Video and I would liek to be 6.1 ready too, but we'll see. I just need to start finding models I like.

I'm waiting for Future Shop to carry the Samsung Tantus TXM3098 30" HDTV
What I really need is a dedicated HomeTheater room. *Sigh* I can't convince mommy to give me the family room, which no one uses ![]()

Well ????? How many of you actually upgraded?
I'm resurrecting this old thread for one reason.....How many of you that originally responded actually upgraded to what you listed? (no more voting!!)
Me......I'm pretty sure I had my Velodyne SPL1200 sub back then, so I'm not sure if it was my last years upgrade, but I originally posted I would upgrade my Sharp projector....and didn't ![]() Oh yeah, and happy holidays to everyone! ![]() |
