Give me the names of some good laserdisc players...

Okay, maybe I'm coming into this whole laserdisc thing a little late, but screw it. I guess I really am a dedicated film junkie, and since it feels like some movies will never get released to disc (I'm thinking the second season of Twin Peaks, El Topo, etc.), I should probably get one before I go nuts.
So, despite the fact that I am also a poor college student, I was wondering if you lot had any recommendations for a Laserdisc and any good info for a newbie.

Pioneer CLD series, DVL series, and just about any Pioneer Elite LD player will give you what you want.

Try and stay away from te industrial LD players as they don't have the features that a home unit would have ( namely Digital and AC3RF output )

Stick with Pioneer (or Denon, which uses Pioneer mechanisms)...make sure you get a model that flips sides, and has a working remote (for extras, like audio commentaries and galleries you NEED the remote!).

Stay lightyears away from Sony laserdisc players that flip...they tend to jam, when flipping from side A to B, and will never give you your laserdisc back...

try a search of this forum--you should find some good information on LD players.

I have a Panasonic LX-H670.

I've had it for about 10 years. Bought it new. Had to transport from St. Louis to college (2 hours away) and back again every summer and Christmas for 6 years, and it's never been in for a cleaning or a repair, and it's never given me a problem. Ever.

It wasn't considered a "great" LD Player, but it was all I could afford like 10 years ago in college, and it's a flipper.

I'll be happy if it just holds up long enough for me to be able to afford a DVD-R and back-up some of my LD-only commentaries and supplements.
