Yes Aiwa is now a Sony product. Sony recently bought out the company and now uses it to sell there lower end (not bad, but not great either) products. I was really sad to see such a great company like Aiwa have to sell out to the man, but stuff happens that we cannot help. I just hope Sony doesn't discontinue them all together.

Didn't Sony start the Aiwa brand?

Jerm, really? The RCA electronics brand is owned by Thompson Electronics, which also markets stuff for the G.E. consumer electronics brand. JVC on the other hand, is a different company, Victor Company of Japan, Limited.
As far as other brands that are owned by a single company, Technics and Panasonic are both part of Matsushita Electric Corporation. |

Panasonic, Technics and National (still around?) are all part of Matsushita (sp?).
Marantz was a Philips brand for a while, and then split off (although still mostly owned by Philips)and later merged with Denon (but they still operate as 2 separate companies). I think you're confusing the RCA thing with Pioneer. RCA had a line of audio/video equipment called RCA pro, which was sold at radio shack/Tandy...it was just Pioneer stuff. Prior to RCA pro, the brand was called Realistic (which was the low-end Pioneer). Sylvania, Symphonic, Funai and Emerson, are all brand-names owned by FUNAI Electric (and sell 1 out of every 3 VCR's in this country). That's all I can think of...there are many more co-owned companies like the Denon/Marantz company, but none spring to mind right now. |
