Yamaha RX-V1 or Denon 3802

I need some help in making a decision. I already own a Denon 3802 and recently bought a Yamaha RX-V1 just because it was a great deal. I know the Yamaha has older technology but this receiver was one of the best for its time. I can't decide if I should keep the Yamaha and then just use the Denon in another room or if I just return the Yamaha and stick with the Denon. Does anyone have any experience with these two receivers?

hmm...what is making this decision hard for you? you're in the ideal position to make that decision yourself. you've got both receivers in your possesion, in your home, and using all your own gear to test each with. Do an A-B comparion, and then pick the one you like best.
then ask yourself, is the cost Yamaha worth the improvement over the Denon, if in fact you like the Yamaha better? Does the other room really need a receiver? If the answer is "yes" to both questions, then keep the Yamaha

I agree 100% with FG on this.

Peace...

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I have another option for you...

Keep the Yamaha, and send ME the Denon

J, I have a better option. I am sure that you already have a digital receiver. I don't. I'll even pay for shipping.

Ok, enough with this bickering... This is REALLY going NOWHERE and I'm SICK of it!!!!!

This is what WILL happen: craven1972, send ME BOTH receivers and a Pioneer Elite VSX-49TXi and I'll handle the rest.

Ok? Does everybody feel better now?

Sheesh....

( )

Peace....

Well thanks for your help. Its was just one of those things were I knew I liked the V1 better but needed something more to justify having both receivers. Especially since I have a receiver in my bedroom already (Denon 1802) which isn't bad. Well anyway I am returning the V1. By the was the 3802 is an awesome receiver the V1 has a lot more power but it lacks the prologic 2 and the remote sucks. I love the Denon remote though. Other than that the V1 has a lot more input and things that could have been useful oh well. If I spend the money now I won't be able to get the Monster Power HTPS 7000 I want. Thanks again!

I bet it was a tough decision. How much did you score that Yamaha for anyway?

if it was in the 2K range, then you could get the Denon 4802R.

Question for ya, have you done an A/B with both receivers using the _same_ speakers? I ask because I remember hearing something about Yamaha receivers being "bright". Meaning they have a tendency to make bright sounding speakers sound brighter. Just wondering. Oh, and I wish I had your dilemma!

Thanks Iguana Man: Well first of all the V1 was much more powerful so everything was louder. But I wouldn't say it made them sound brighter. I really don't think the clarity was any better either it was just louder. I did an A/B and tried I number of good testing points in DVDs and to be honest I can't honestly say that when you put both receivers to a volume that is equal for both that I could really hear any more detail without really struggling to hear something. So in my estimation it wasn't worth the jump. I really want to mention one more time that the V1 only had prologic also not prologic2 and I really get a lot out of prologic 2. I have quite a few DVDs that don't come through in 5.1 DD and the prologic2 does a great job. Also for TV it does a really good job managing the sounds. Good question Iguana because I think I have heard that as well but I can't say its true.
