Playing VCDs on my computer

Can I play VCDs on my computer using a CD-ROM drive, or must I have a DVD-ROM drive?

[I don't know if this thread belongs in here or in the "Software" forum--VCDs (software) vs. CD/DVD-ROM drive (hardware)--so, if it's in the wrong forum, would a moderator please transfer it to the correct forum. Thank you.]

Right, all that is needed is a CD-ROM drive.

You can just drag and drop the *.dat files into Windows Media Player to play the files. They are usually in a folder MPEGAV.

You can also find various VCD player software. Try VCD Help for assistance in locating a software player. Again, it's not necessary though.

Windows Media Player 8/9 has a built-in VCD support...no need to search for the *.dat files, unless you're using an older version.
