progressive scan and a non hdtv tv

Is there any reason to have a progressive scan dvd player if I only have a sony wega first series tv with component video inputs.

reason: because you are going to upgrade your current TV

currently, no progressive scan benefits without a digital display.

Your Sony will not be able to display a progressive scan signal. That does not mean I would not recommend you get a progressive scan player if you are in the market to purchase a new player. Generally, a progressive scan player will be a higher quality player and you can always use it later should you choose to upgrade your television. With the current prices on progressive scan players, there's really no reason to get an interlaced player.
