480P DVD Player on 540P TV

Just wondering, if I get an HDTV with 540p will I have problems with XBox games and my 480p DVD player? I've never been too clear on the 480/540/720 issue. Any help would be cool! Thanks!

What TV are you looking at buying? My Toshiba 57HX81 upconverts 480p to 540p before displaying the image and does this without any technical problems at all, meaning the picture displays just fine.

People have indicated that this model of Toshiba does a poor upconversion to 540p which results in picture quality loss, but I'm very happy with the performance of my 57HX81.

Peace...

You could try asking Ruined over in the Game forums about the XBox side of your question.

tomdkat, I'm looking at the Toshiba 50HDX82, very similar to the model that you have I do believe. Would this be a good purchase?

Actually, the HDX82 isn't similar to my HX81, it's better!

The HDX82 doesn't have the ghosting "issues" my HX81 has and doesn't do the 480p -> 540p upconversion that my HX81 does (or it does it better if it still does).

It should have DVI inputs with HDCP support, so you should be set.

Mr Bob doesn't like the Toshiba sets much, but I've been _VERY_ happy with mine and have NO PROBLEM recommending them to anyone. You can read Mr Bob's comments in this thread.

Audition the HDX82 if you can. I would even take a Xbox WITH you and connect it and see how it looks!

Good luck!

Peace...
