Does anyone here own a Mitsubishi WS 55411 HDTV??

i got @ 2 weeks to find out as much as i can about this tv. i was hoping to find opinions from people that own it.

i had to change my plans from get the panny that i wanted to this one, but i hope this one will do just as well.

i'd like to know if anyone's heard anything about this TV as well (good, bad, indifferent) as i can't seem to find anything other than your standard specs on the net. any known problems, glitches, or otherwise that i should know about ?

also does anyone know if this has the protective shield (and if it can be removed) ?

Why did you change your mind from the Panasonic and what Panasonic were you looking at?

Peace...

I have the WS-55819 which is last year's version of the WS-55411 as far as I know. I've been supremely happy with it since I purchased it last June. Extremely nice picture and the set is highly adjustable. I've had no issues with my set and have no problem recommending this year's model.

I'd recommend checking out the Home Theater Spot forums and see what they say over there. They have a dedicated Mitsubishi forum and the members are extremely knowledgeable. You'll notice that the Mitsubishi forum there is by far the most popular among all the manufacturers. I think that should tell you they like the Mitsubishis.

well, i have to pay for it all at once cause my credit's pretty bad and everytime i've expected a nice sized check (i.e. income tax, school loan refund), it was decided by the powers that be that i not get it. so it got me to the point of complete frustration (and sheer desperation) to go to Rent-A-Center and get one through them. it's the only way that i can get one now and make payments on it.

the only decent model that RAC had that in the size i wanted was the Mits 55", so i opted out of waiting another 8 months or more of saving for the panny PT-53WX42 and just biting the bullet and getting one now from RAC. granted i know i'm paying more for it than i normally would, but that's the crap you go through when having bad credit.

cest la vie

so the reason i have two weeks to do this is cause RAC didn't have any more of the model that i wanted, but have a few coming in a couple of weeks and the sales guy is going to put on aside for me and call me when it comes in. so i got 2 weeks to change my mind.

on another note:
hey MurDiddlyUrdler, does your tv have the protective screen, and is it removable if it does?

My TV has the protective shield, but I have not removed it yet. I'm lazy, but I did read on the Home Theater Spot site that it's pretty easy to remove and will result in a nicer looking picture. I might look into doing it this weekend.

MurDiddlyUrdler I have the same model Mits and the shield comes off pretty easy and is a definite improvement in PQ once it's off. Just make sure you redo your Avia cal to adjusted for the tint not being there anymore.

wynterfire - I think you'll love the 55411. It seems to be the favorite among the folks at the Home Theater Spot who decide to go with the non integrated set. You are aware of all of the DVI crap and the fact that this set doesn't have DVI connections. It is a HDTV Ready model so it can use the Promise Module but so far Mits isn't putting DVI into that either. If DVI is important to you than go with another brand or wait until next year for Mits to add it. Other than that it has plenty of inputs, a great picture for DVD and HDTV (480i signals are just so so when upconverted from cable or sat) and is easily tweaked for whatever needs adjusting.

I found the info I was looking for at the Spot and easily removed the screen. It was kind of intimidating at first taking the whole screen off the TV, but it was amazingly simple. First reaction is that, yes, the picture is improved. Coolio!

Now what should I do with my protective shield? I need to find a good way to store it.

MurDiddlyUrdler I'm not sure about the newer models but on the 55819 to take the protective screen off all I did was to use a credit card to slide under the plastic retaining strip along the top and bottom of the screen. After sliding the card under the strip I lifted it enough to grab with my fingers and it just pulled right off. After both strips are removed the screen bowed out allowing me to remove it very easily. I then replaced the strips to keep the screen frame looking nice. So doing it this way there's no reason to remove the screen frame in order to remove the protective screen. If you removed the frame then you did more work than was needed but it still allowed you to see that there's nothing to removing your screen to do other tweaks like focus and lens cleaning which I also recommend.
