Competition at The Sony Store

I was in my nearby Sony Store earlier this afternoon, and right when you walk in, immediately to your left is thier big plasma display, showing off an HD demo. However, it was Samsung's demo butterfly, flowers, and the Samsung logo in the bottom right corner. Now, this couple (mid-late thirtysomethings) walks in and I overhear them talking about how that plasma would look good in thier living room. Here comes the salesman over to the couple....

salesman: "Hello there...it looks gorgeous, doesn't it?"
woman: "Oh yes, the picture on this Samsung is....wow!"
salesman : *slight chuckle* "Actually, it says 'Samsung' because that's just the demo we use to show off the quality of High Definition Television. All our televsions here are Sony's"

I just stood there listening, and everytime the lady refered to the plasma set, she called it "the Samsung"...it was kinda funny to see the salesman's reations...she said it on at least two more occasions...heh. Anyway, I didn't stick around long enough to see if the couple bought it or not.

Did you notice what was the source of the Samsung demo? Usually they play it off a DVD and if that was the case, wouldn't that not be HD? Some stores show off their HD off a satellite feed, although I'm not sure if The Sony Store does this.

There is a local ht store here that isnt exclusivly Sony, but they might as well be, and they show off all thier TVs with Mits DVD accept the one Mits set that they have, that one is hooked up to HD cable

you know...I never actually thought about that before. I just assumed it was always HD material they demo on thier top-of-the-line sets. mind you, I rarely get to see HD, in fact, I don't get to see much 480p stuff either, so pretty much every demo in any store looks stunning to me
There's this one b-stock outlet here that always shows the same demo on thier digital sets...it's an amusement park, showing people on various rides (cable cars, ferris wheel, merry-go-round). Anyone ever see that one? Is that off a DVD?

While I share this same "gripe", I must insist that comments like this NOT be posted as they are viewed as thread crapping posts and that is not tolerated.

I think the phrase "a DVD" in this thread was meant to be understood as "a DVD disc" and not to refer to as the player.
