Are there any DVD players that are not so wide?

I want a basic DVD player for my bedroom. I looked in Best Buy and Wal-Mart and every one of them is about 15 - 18 inches wide. I guess they're supposed to look sleek and modern, but doesn't anybody make something say 8 inches wide?

So, it should be a reasonable width, it's going to plug into a 12 inch TV so image quality is not an issue. It would be nice if it had an optical output so I could use it with my MiniDisc recorder.

Thanks!

Sony's DVP-PQ1 and 2 model are small, but their design is a little bizarre. The Sony DVP-F21/41 are more conservative, but equally small. On the cheaper side, the Apex AD-1600 has a small width, and then there is this freak of nature.
Aiwa's XD-DV10 is very small, and very cute.

I'm not endorsing any of these models, as I've never used any, but hopefully they'll lead you somewhere...

Have you thought about picking up one of the portable DVD players? They're small enough for your needs with the added benefit of portability for on the go viewing.

at walmarts here in Canada, they sell a "slim" player under the "durabrand (sp?)" name. I'd estimate is about 9" wide and sells for $150 CDN. I don't see it on the US walmart site though...
why do you need a player that narrow? the cheapo Apex players are about 12" wide.

There's also this guy, but it's not available until sometime next month:

Sony Psyc DVP-PQ2. It's supposed to retail for $90

Hi, thanks everyone for your replies!

Actually I don't need one as narrow as 8 inches, I don't know why I said that I've since seen the Apex and it will fit where I want to put it fine.

However I may act on the suggestion of getting a portable -- their prices no longer seem so high. Are there any particular brands/models to stay away from?

the cheapest portable I've seen here is around $200 CDN. It was a Taiwanese brand and only has a 4" screen. I don't know what type of connectivity options it has though.
