DVD player lost its LCD display

I own a JVC XV-S502 dvd player. I came back to my dorm today and turned on my dvd player. The lcd display never lit up but other than that the player works fine. I have no idea why this has happened. I checked the manual and all it has is info to make the lcd brighter. Any suggestions?

Check the warranty... find a service depot for it... use it as a player, ie, hook up a tv to it... not much else you can do.

Is this a standard player or a portable player.

I assume its a standard home player and the LCD readout that counts time and chapters on the front of the player is out. If so, play around with the controls you saw in the manual for changing the brightness. I know it could be completely different, but on my Sony player, the front display got turned off somehow and it turned out it was actually a brightness setting for the display.
