i need serious help (WS TV dilemma) ...the story continues
ok. i know i've tapped you guys for info before about my recent quest to get a widescreen tv, but a new dilemma in the story has me at odds.
here's the deal: i was all set to get a Mitsubishi WS55411 from Rent-A-Center, (and kinda still am). i was supposed to get the TV today, but it was shipped to the wrong store and will take 3 more weeks to get it (the Mits). they offered me an alternative TV (a Philips 55PP9502) to tide me over till the right one gets here. i still wanted the Mits but now, looking at the specs for the Philips, i like the fact that there is a screen burn-in preventative. (i play alot of video games) now the dilemma i'm having is that i always thought Philips was a brand name on the lower end of the spectrum (i mean you can get their TV's at walmart and Kmart (you can't with the Mits)). and from recommendations that i've heard, the Mits is a pretty reliable TV. i want a TV that is gonna last me a decent amount of time and am at odds because i don't know if i should still get the Mits or stay with the Philips (i know it's a game of chance with electronics, but brand reliability is my main factor). does anyone have any suggestions as to which way i should go? any horror/great experience stories about either of these brands/ TV's i should know about? are either of these TV's high end or low end models? i did some research on user reviews and they seemed a bit biased and even on both ends. someone help cause i'm pulling my hair out. these are the 2 TV's i'm talking about:

From reviews I've read, floor model displays, and friends' experiences, I can say that the Mitsubishi will not only have better picture quality, but it will also be more reliable. If screen-burn in is a concern, then I think you should take a peek at a DLP TV. Just a thought, but the Mitsubishi will work out just fine for you from what I've heard.

I'm guessing the Philips would be a little bit cheaper. I don't know if that's a factor for you, but I'd still rather have the Mitsubishi if it were me. I have last year's version of that same Mitsubishi TV and it's been a fantastic experience.
Philips is good for some products, but I just think their TVs look cheap. Just my opinion, but I just cannot imagine Philips matching Mitsubishi's build quality. As for screen burn-in, if you take precautions with the Mitsubishi, it won't be a problem. Keep the contrast set below 50% just don't play the same video game constantly and you'll be fine. |

If you feel more comfortable with the Mits, just wait for it. ![]() Good luck! Peace...
