Harry Potter and the Chamber of Tweeter Distortion

Of all movies, I least expected Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets to be the one that would make my home theater setup fumble - and the first time ever in 3 years and 700 DVDs. However, this appears to be the case. Just want to confirm this with others though. Check the spoiler below for context if you have the movie and a 5.1 setup:

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
When Harry is battling the Basilisk, after the Phoenix blinds it, and harry climbs up on the big stone statue, the Basilisk lunges into the stone statue Harry is on 3 times.

The first time, it just sounds like a big "boom." However, the 2nd and 3rd times in addition to the boom I hear sharp crackling noises that sounds like either tweeter distortion, or crackling rocks. Playing back the same passage at a lower volume I couldn't determine whether or not the crackling noise was still there. From the context above, it is possible it is part of the soundtrack, but then again it sounds suspicious.

If you can do me a favor and check your copy, pump up the volume real loud on this scene and tell me if you hear a crackling noise that sounds like ice or stone cracking.

Still stunned that Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets bested my 300wpc Parasound amp/ PSB Stratus Gold setup! You'd think one of the many other demo DVDs I have would have done so first

Maybe it's time to buy some Bagends again to take some strain off the mains... In fact, I might go test it right now with a 40hz highpass and see what happens.

Hmm maybe this should be moved to hardware. No one seems to be fielding it in software.

Can you give me the chapter/time for this and I'll rent it tonight and test. Oh, should I run my B&W604s with or without my sub ?

i just checked it for you--i listened about 3 or 4 times, with and without my sub on

the first time the Bask. hits its a boom, and then there is an odd wispy noise as the bask. recoils

the second time, there is the boom, and some rocks breaking, but i couldnt really say it was crackling, more like regular rock breaking sound effect

the third is pretty much the same as the second

it sounds as if you may have a glitch in your disk because i dont believe what your hearing is normal audio

*i tired to check subtitles because they often list sound effects along with diologue so i could see what it listed at each of those scenes, but it did list the SE's

Well I rented this last night (you owe me 4 bucks ) and ran it through a mere 90 wpc into B&W DM604S2's at a louder than normal volume (for me anyway).

The first "ramming" into the stone sounded correct. The second one however (and 3rd for the most part), did have a different kind of sound to it, which after a couple of replays sounds to me like the musical track getting filtered in. I think what you're hearing is percusion in the music track. Yes, the rock breaking has a slightly different sound (more of the pieces breaking?), but for me I could distinctly hear the music score and in it was some symbols, or some other percussion type instrument in the background. The louder I cranked it, the more I could hear it.

On a side note, this movies got some nice low end to it. While your speakers go a bit lower than mine, I will say you need to get a sub(s). But you already know that, don't you?
