Pioneer DV-656A, Malata DVP-520/566 owners?

I'm helping out a friend of mine in buying a DVD player. He has a Pioneer Pro-Logic receiver that's a few years old but it's DD-ready, it has 5.1 analog inputs. I know the Malata 520/566 can decode DD and output it via analog 5.1 but can it decode and output DTS via analog 5.1 as well? How about the Pioneer 656A? He can live without DTS for now but if there's a player that can pass it through via analog 5.1, then he'll surely take it. He doesn't want the hassle and added expense of buying a new receiver at this point in time.
Any other player suggestions with 5.1 analog output at this price point?

Thanks

I have an old JVC RX-509v receiver this thing has to be at least 6-7 years old. I have the Pioneer 656a hooked up to it and it delivers great 5.1 through the receiver. I hooked the 656a to a 2 channel input on the receiver because it doesn't have the 5.1 setup, and setup the 656a for that option.
If this helps great

Thanks hipster
Actually, he already has a JVC DVD player hooked up to his receiver via 2-channel RCA so he's already getting Pro-Logic from his DVD movies. He was about to buy a inexpensive second player (like an Apex) for the kids to use in a smaller room. Then I told him, why not move the JVC to the small room and buy a new player to take advantage of the analog 5.1 inputs on his receiver so he can get Dolby Digital, and possibly DTS.
Can you tell me if the 656a can be set up to decode and output DTS through the analog 5.1 outputs?
Thanks

Every DVD player that has on board DD/DTS decoder can be set up to output analog 5.1 channels.

Most DVD-audio capable DVD players have on board DD/DTS decoder. From what I can see on Pioneers web site, DVD-656A has both DD and DTS decoders and can play DVD-audio. So it should work just fine with 5.1 analog inputs on your receiver.

Awesome! Thanks mrkeeling
I'm just not familiar with players with on-board decoders and analog 5.1 outputs, and I couldn't find any reference that states that DTS can be passed out via analog 5.1.
Also, I just found out that the Malata 566 only has stereo RCA, so that's out. The Malata 520 can be bought locally for $270 CAD (more expensive for you guys in the States, $270 US online). We'll have to check out the prices for the 656a but I'm guessing it's also hovering around $300 CAD or less, since it sells for $200 US or less in the States. I've heard/read good things about each of these players so it's just a matter of him preferring DVD-A cabability of the Pioneer, or Multi-region and Karaoke features of the Malata (but he most likely wouldn't use these added features for either of these players anyway).
Thanks again!

If he isn't going to view multi-region DVDs, then the Pioneer is probably a better DVD player.

Actually it's quite easy to make the Pioneer multi region, using a Palmpilot or a laptop with IR-port: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php...ioneer+DV-656A
