Room low frequency response

After introducing Outlaw ICBM to my system and drastic bass level increase as a result, I decided to revisit my bass optimization option on my sub.

Specifications for my sub (Infinity Interlude IL-100) list frequency response of 32Hz – 150Hz (+/- 3 dB).

I used Avia’s LFE sweep from Evaluation menu in audio settings. The test tone starts at 100Hz and goes down to under 20Hz.

With parametric equalizer turned OFF my SPL reading ranged from 72 dB up to 86 dB at peaks.

After adjusting frequency, level of attenuation and bandwidth the best I could (or had enough patience ) I managed to tone it down to readings that ranged from 72 dB to 78dB (72db being at 90Hz as well as at 30Hz when the steep rolloff starts and 78 being at my highest peak).

I am more or less happy with this – having a response of 75dB (which is reference level of my other speakers) +/- 3db from my sub.

I am just wondering if any of you did this test, and if you did what were your readings? If you didn’t and are equipped (Avia disc and SPL meter) would you mind doing it?

I would like to know how bad (or good) my room is and how it’s response compares with others.

Thanks for any input

wow you did good to get the 72-86 gap to 72-76. That's about average especially since your going all the way down to 20Hz.

Personally I hate subwoofers. Gimme big floorstanders!

Nice going MrKeeling, I've done the AVIA sweep too but forget my readings. I'll try tonight and post tomorrow. I can say the readings in my "square-acoustically-nightmare-of-a-room" were no where near as nice as yours. I remember massive peaks somewhere around 70hz and I think 40-45hz. I also noticed the db's started dropping off at around the 20-25hz mark.

Oh, and octopus1256, I love floorstanders too but still like a good sub!
