My review of my new equipment

As I am sure most of you know I have revamped my entire HT. Upgrades are: Infocus x1 dlp projector (with diy screen ~70''), Pioneer DV563a, atv compment video switch, Wharfdale bipolar surrounds, infinaty 12'' 250 watt sub. I kept my Polk center cs245 center, and rs25 as mains, aswell as my sony dd dts receiver.

The Video setup is incredible. The x1 is one of the best deals you can find in the HT market. I didnt really purchase it for the same reason most people purchase a FP setup. I was actually in the market for a RPTV and found nothing that I thought was worthwile. While the x1 can easily do the larger image sizes that are common to the FP niche, it is inexpensive enough that someone like my self can get video quality as good or better than most RPTVs, and an image signifcantly larger, and spend half the money. The Quallity is spectacular I have put about 30 hours on it so far and I have enjoyed every minute of it. It may not have the picture quality of my 27'' vega, but it comes awfully close. And at 70'' the whole experience of watching a movie at home is enhanced 10 fold.

My main concern when purchasing the PJ is whether or not it would be bright enough to serve day to day duty, in that area it is weak, but I purchased some good curtains and that solved the problem. I was worried that I would need pitch black to have a decent image, but that is not the case. It handels ambient light very well, It just does not do well with sun light, esspecially direct sunlight. In the evening with lamps on in the apartment it works just fine. And with the curtains drawn during the day it there is still plenty of light in the room.

The x1 actually has the faroudja chip set onboard, so it produces excellent images even when hooked up to my old cheap interlaced samsung dvdm301. I notice actually little improvement with the new Pioneer (not because its not good, but becuase the old image is just that good). For those concerned with chroma (CUE sorry tom ) I have checked all of the disks that I have previously noticed chroma on and could not find it using either the onbard faroudja or the Pioneer via prog video. For my mini dvd-a sacd review you can check out the dv563a thread.

Im really blown away by the x1, I can think of very few reasons to purchase a RPTV. I think anyone thinking about purchaseing a new tv of any sort, needs to at least demo one of these.

Bottom line, all around.

Im still working out mounting and cabling issues so when I get everything squared away Ill get pictures up.

Thanks for the review. This would be better placed in your "Your Home Theater" thread,

I 8 Piglet's new setup

so I'll close this and people can post comments in that thread.

Peace...
