Too Much bass in Dialogue

Ive got a full range set up with 5 matching MTX monitors.
the center is set to small, crossover at 80hz.

When watching a movie, when people talk, theres way too much bass in their voices. it doesnt sound natural at all, its like im getting blasted with bass everytime they talk. now maybe the monitors dont handle dialogue that well, but is there anything i can do short of getting a new speaker that will turn down that bass. i want it to blend in to the soundstage.

Maybe you could set the cross-over at 70 or 60, if your main speakers can go down that low.

Is your center channel set to "Large" in your receiver's speaker settings?

Peace...

So you have a subwoofer.

With your center speaker set to small it will only handle stuff from 80hz and up. The rest goes to either the LR speakers (if set to large) or the subwoofer (if you have one).

There could be a channel volume calibration issue with either your L/R speakers or subwoofer that is causing this problem. Or there could be some glitchy behavior on the part of your receivers bass management circuitry that is causing the problem.

Do you have a link online to the manufacturers page for your specific speakers and receiver?

THE SPEAKER:
(Its The Monitor 10)

THE RECIEVER:
JVC RX-9000VBK
i cant find the page for it.

it might just be that i need a real center channel. the monitors might be a music speaker designed to put out huge bass. but i dont want some small little speaker that cant put out much power, like a lot of center channels.

Set them all to small or all to large, if they're all matching. Don't put the speakers in boxes/cabinets or corners.

Do you have a subwoofer?

I notice that the woofers are powered... is there a level control for the woofer?

This is interesting. My understanding is that having 5 matching speakers should provide the best results possible. Let me ask you this, when you listen to stereo music, running the front L & R only, and you play something with lots of vocals, do they (L&R) also sound too bass heavy? If so perhaps it's just the nature of the speakers.

Edited; And if you want to test the potential "bass management" issue that Chromy mentioned.....set them all to small, play a specific track, set them all back to large, and play the track again. You should easily notice if a bass management problem exists......right?

when i play L/R music, it sounds fine.
i fixed the problem though, the speakers are Rear ported, so i just moved the speaker towards the back wall, and it fixed the problem.
