Using PS2 as DVD Player

I do not currently own a DVD player, but rather use my Playstation 2 for all my DVD needs. Any suggestions on how to better this PS2 DVD experience without spending more than an arm and a leg?

Note: I realise I could get a DVD player, but lets stick with the PS2 for the moment .

If you insist on useing your ps2 for a dvd player, which is not the worst thing in the world, (assuming you have a direct view tv), monster cables have a component video adapter thats supposed to be pretty good. Thats of course assuming your tv has component inputs, if not they also sell svideo cables, I think thats about it.

I second that.

But for 2 reasons.

First off, using the controller as a remote is annoying at best.
It lacks the range and the layout is craptacular.

And, secondly, IIRC, it comes with an upgrade disk. So depending on which version of dvd firmware (can you call it that on a ps2?) you have, you may need this upgrade disk as it addresses some compatibility issues.

Another thing (which you haven't mentioned) is how you have your PS2 hooked up.

Are you using a reciever/pre|pro?

If so, are you using an optical cable from the PS2 to the reciever/pre|pro or just stereo cable?

And how is it connected to your display?

RF/Coax adapter? Composite? S-Video? RGB/Component?

There are alot of ways to your PS2 DVD and Gaming experience more ejoyable.
