Sony DVP-S330

when i fire up my dvd player, it will either shut off immediately, or it will begin to play the dvd and shut off a few moments later. and, on the rare occasion, it might even play the dvd the whole way through. it's been actin up like this for quite some time now, and has become extremely annoying. any ideas on what's goin on would be greatly appreciated.

If your DVD player will shut off after turning it on, it sounds like the player is in dire need of service. Does it shut off WITHOUT a DVD being in it even?

I don't know how long ago you got your DVP-S330, but given how inexpensive DVD players are these days, I would recommend replacing it with a Panasonic, Pioneer, or Toshiba DVD player (progressive scan even) that you can find for under $100.

If you search through the Glitch Exhaust, like I 8 Piglet mentions, you can find previous discussion indicating how "problematic" this (and "sibling") DVD player is with various DVDs.

Read through the "DVD Player recommendation" thread in this forum for suggestions on replacement DVD players. If you still have questions, post a question in that thread listing your requirements and budget so we can recommend a replacement DVD player for you.

Good luck!

Peace...

OnWelfare,

I have the exact same player, and it did the exact same thing
almost a year after I bought it. At first I thought it was the fuse so I bought a pack of them at Radio Shack, - wasn't the problem. Luckily the
problem occured within
the one year warranty so I took it to the Sony Store (where I bought it) and had it serviced, if I'm not mistaken I think it was a power
supply issue; anyway it's been operating perfectly since the problem was
fixed three years ago.

P.S. - When the problem first started happening I learned that if I applied
some pressure on the top of the player with my hand it would remain on,
so for awhile I kept a good sized book on top of it to keep it on.....weird.

yeah that is pretty weird. when i give the player a few friendly taps right below the power button, it seems to help out a little bit. i'll try the book remedy for sure though. thanks for the insight.

This sounds similar to what happened at my theater for a Panasonic Progessive Scan DVD Player (no model) After having the player for about 2-3 months the thing would not play our theater pre-show dvd. It kept saying it was Over Heated. Well we took it out and turns out about 2 months ago most of the Famous Players theaters had a similar problem occur. Turned out the motor had burned out on us. So it could be the problem on the Sony. But like mentioned above you could buy a cheap brand name Progressive Scan player to replace your old player. I personally like Toshiba the best
