My DVD Player is dying!
Right before I left Hawaii, on an impulse, I bought a Samsung 5 Disc Player at the Base Exchange. The next day my stuff was packed, and it was shipped.
I used it for the first time last month. At first it seemed okay. Then we played Jimmy Neutron Confusion Fusion, which is a collection of animated episodes. When it switched from one particular episode to another, it skipped half the episode. Then about a week ago, my son & I were watching Episode 2 (first time on the player), and in the middle of the Jango/Kenobi fight, it skipped to the next chapter. I went back & it did it again. So I took the disc out, made sure it was clean, and put it back in. At the exact same spot, it did it again. Last night, I'm watching The Matrix, and at one point, I am pretty sure that it skipped ahead, and later on, it completely froze up. Disc was clean Later on, I am telling my wife that I think that our new player is junk. And I decide to put in Star Wars, and show her the problem I had over the weekend. This time, the player doesn't even recognize that I have a disc in the player! So I've tracked down my receipt, and I am going to return it to the Base Exchange after I get off work. This time, I will not replace it with a junk brand. I will also try to look for a progressive scan, since my next TV should be an HDTV.

Progressive scan DVD players are very inexpensive these days and very easy to find. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a good replacement player.

Well, I had to change my plans.
I took my junk player back, but instead of buying another one, I used the money while I had company. So, I took my old player out of the bedroom (since the TV up there is junk) and put it downstairs. I ended up using the money (which was a hastle to get back...but I eventually won) while I had friends up from Maryland. I'll hold off on getting a player for now, but I'll definitely get one by the time I upgrade my TV.

The Panasonic DVD players that were SOOOOO very popular (the RP56, RP82, XP30, etc) have been known to have loading tray "problems" and have been criticised as being "flimsy" machines, even though they offer awesome video performance. So, it really depends on which components you're talking about. ![]() Peace...
