Toshiba TV Question...

I've got a question for all you Toshiba owner's...

I can get the 51h83 or the 50hdx82 for roughly the same price. Which do you think is the better set and why?

Thanks!

The 50HDX82 has DVI+HDCP, which is a GOOD thing while the 51H83 doesn't have HDCP listed on its spec page on the Toshiba website.
THe 50HDX82 is the "Cinema Series" line of HDTV from Toshiba which is their "Top of the Line" series.

To be honest, this question is probably best asked on Home Theater SPot as they have a Toshiba forum where you can get the scoop on both of these sets.

If the 51H83 has HDCP, I would say go with that one. It's a newer set, it's cheaper, and should perform better than the HDX82 since Toshiba had time to "fix" any of the HDX82 quirks.

The H83 and HX83 line of sets might have their own set of issues, however.

You say the sets are "roughly" the same price. What's the price difference between the two?

Peace...

Thanks for the info! Yes I realize that the HDX is last year's model, that's why I'm asking. I work for an A/V store, but we don't stock TVs, we get them through a distributer, the dist. has one HDX left but they no longer carry the Cinema Series line, just the Theater Wide. The HDX is on closeout and is less than $50 more than the 51H83. Also, the 51H83 does have DVI.

So now you know the rest of the story...

Yes, the Toshiba lists the 51H83 as having a DVI input but doesn't mention HDCP, which would be a "good to have" once HD receiver with a DVI output and HDCP to encrypt HD content.

Can you find out if the 51H83 has HDCP suport?

Peace...
