InFocus projectors at work
I'm in no position to buy a projector, but I was wondering what the selling points of projectors are.
Could I use the ~3 year old inFocus projectors at work? Would they be better than my TV?

I guess it would depend on how good your TV is, whether or not you could kill all ambient light, how good the projector is, and how it's calibrated...you'll certainly get a bigger picture than your standard 27"-36" TV but depending on the factors listed above, that might be all you achieve...

Well the older PJs have a differnt DLP chips, Im not as much of an expert on this technology as some of the guys over at AVS, but suffice it to say that the older PJ will have far worse problems with black level and contrast ratios. They, most likely, will have less lumens making them not as bright, hence more suseptable to ambient light. The bulbs on the older machines are more expensive, and dont have the life of the newer ones (that might not be an issue if this belongs to your company).
That being said, plenty of people have used them and still use them as hometheater machines. You will really need to try it out an find out for your self if any of these issues bother you. I demoed a low CR Infocus PJ from my fathers school before I bought my x1, and I noticed the difference (my x1 2000:1, this one was 450:1) But it was still more than watchable. Somethings to point out, regular cable is pretty crappy for the most part, when you magnify it to the sizes of a front projection setup it looks pretty crappy, I find my self watching mondain regular cable braodcasts on my old 27" crt (partly to save lamplife). Also, if your bothered by CUE, make sure you have a good DVD player, because that, too, is magnified. The X1 has an onbaord Faroudja chipset, so you dont have to worry about that sort of thing, but the older ones donot, and suffer for it.
