Cool! When you can, start a thread in the Your Home Theater sub-forum of Hardware and post pics of your LCD TV in action!

Peace...

I know my "component cables" are hooked on correctly and I have gone into, i think, my Pioneer 563a dvd and set it to "progressive (although when I did this my screen went blank and some weird color sceme came up).
But the the dvd's I've put in look "grainy". I was expecting this super clear image!
Help

what DVD did you put in?

Try a movie that has THX optimizer and do some calibrations with that. Try any Pixar movie besides A Bugs Life and it will be in the set up menu.
Most new movies do not have very much grain.

I think I'm good to go! I made some adjustment, ran through the calibration and now the picture looks good. I also think we were too close to the screen. What is an ideal distance for a 50" screen?

I also put in Gladiator with the DTS...WOW!!!!

This is debatable, but some would say 4 times the hieght. Others say 3 times is fine. Try it out to where you think it looks right.

As far as front projetion goes, its 1.5 - 2x screen width. I would assume its the same or similar to that for RP.

I've got a 57" HDTV and I sit ~ 12' - 13' away. Maybe that's too far, but based on the layout of my living room I don't have any other option. Still, I love the picture!

Peace...

I sit about 8-9 feet from my 55" TV when I'm on one of my recliners and the picture looks just fine.

is there a way to tell if you "progressive scan" is on? It's lit up on my Pioneer 563a, but the picture to me still doesn't seem that clear! My old panny with no progressive on a 34" sony looked more clear!

What DVD are you watching? In the DVD player menu, look to see if the player is set for "auto-progressive" or "progressive" being on all the time. My DV-656a has the "auto-progressive" feature that will output a progressive video signal only if anamorphic video is detected.

Peace...

I just put HP "Chamber of Secrets"!
Last night I threw in Matrix Reloaded and it looked real good. HP didn't look as good!

Ok, I'm not familiar with "Chamber of Secrets" so I'll have to default to someone else providing feedback regarding this title and DVD A/V quality.

Can you provide more specifics about what you saw that displeased you when watching "Chamber of Secrets"?

Peace...

hard to explain, maybe just "grainy" You go to a store and the videos look crystal clear. here I look and I can see all little colored dots and just an all around "average picture"

Ok, fair enough. Can you at least post the chapter number of a particular scene that shows the grain "worse" than other places?

Keep in mind, if the HDTVs at a store are being fed a High Definition signal, it will look better than 480p DVD video will or can.

Peace...

I sit about 9 ft away from my 92" screen

As far as the 'colored dots' go. Do they dance around, or are you seeing the individual pixels of the display device (does the picture look like a grid). If you're seeing grain (as I suspect you are as you say that some discs look fine) that's just inherent in the transfer process... could be sloppyness in the transfer, or inherent in the original film source.

Dark movies will be harder to see the gridding effect (screen door effect) caused by the LCD technology. Try a few known silky smooth transfer movies like SW Ep II, any of the Pixar movies, etc and see if you are seeing the same effect (on bright scenes) to try and narrow this down.

Um, Chromy he did try a movie with a "smooth" transfer....

I just don't know if "Chamber of Secrets" is known to have a "good" video transfer or not.

Peace...
