If you have the space for a front projection setup, dfinatly check out the Infocus X1. Less than a $1000, and better picture qualtiy, and signifcantly larger image than any TV in its price range. (only catch is light control is an issue) Check mine out in my sig.

I 8 brings up a great point. Also, what size TV are you looking for?

But the X1 is not HD resolution, is it? I looked at the Dell site and they listed it as 800 x 600. I believe HD is 1024 x 768 resolution. But if that does not matter, the X1 sounds to be a great deal for DVD playback but it would not work for HD playback would it?

I own the RCA F38310 and it is a great set with built in HD tuner and Direct TV HD tuner. It is no longer available but can often be found online and in stores for around $1200. It is a massive set that is 38" and weighs a ridiculous 220 lbs.

If there's one near you, BJs Wholesale Club has the Panasonic PT-47WX42 for around $1000 right now. Rear projection 47" widescreen. It does not have an HD receiver however.
It's the one I own and have been very happy with. |

Well technicly hd is 19xx x 1080, but there is no PJ, that I know of, that does that. The closest they come is 1280x720, and only ABC broadcasts in that (that is the resolution of the HD plasma's. even XGA (1024 x 768) wont display the full 720. It is a 4:3 resolution, so 16:9 content is croped down in to somewhere in the 500's. But the thing is most RPTVs, especially in that price range, dont really do full res HD anyway so it does not matter. HD on my x1 is still a noticable improvement over 480p dvds. And HD content, as well as DVDs, look better on my x1 than anything I have seen in a store (besides, of course, a direct view set, but thats too small to be a consideration for me)
