Volume levels on tv for DVD player

I just bought this TV from Best Buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....oryId=cat03006

I have it hooked up to high definition and I have it hooked up to the audio cables I also bought. I can change the volume levels from high to low when I watch regular TV, but when I try to watch a DVD on my tv through my dvd player, it wont let me change the volume. Is there a certain way that you change the volume when using the dvd player for this tv?

Well, I am not familiar with Toshiba TVs...Circuit City does not carry them, but there should be no reason that you can't control the volume on your TV. Are you using composite audio cables (the red & white ones)? If so, are they properly hooked up? I can only guess, but I believe that either something is hooked up incorrectly, or you have to adjust a setting on your TV set.

I don't know how all other TVs behave, but when I use the video input on my TVs, there is usually no sound, but then I don't wire the audio from the DVD player to the TV. I usually wire my audio straight to my receiver, which all of the speakers are hooked up to.

Are you wiring your DVD player audio straight to the TV? This requires the red and white RCA cables, not just the yellow cable which is video only.

Are you getting volume to begin with yet cannot change it (thru the TV remote)? Please elaborate (for me anyway ).

Ok, for a better explanation:

I have the video cables which are the high definition ones set up to the dvd player and through the tv. I also have a seperate set of the audio cables which are also set in the dvd player and into the tv. The audio cables are red and black. The box that they came in state "high definition interconnect with time correct windings, bandwidth balanced construction and dual soolid core conductors for enhanced audio performance. The cables are known as Interlink 400 MK2. I get great volume while watching movies. The only problem I have is that I can't change the volume setting. It is just a certain loudness and I can't make it softer or louder.

Acutally, if you go to the link I provided as the first post on this thread, and then go to view more photos, there is a photo of the back.

Apparently, I had the audio cables hooked into the wrong ports, and figured out they needed to be hooked in the ports beneath the video cables. After I realized I had done that, I fixed the cables, and the sounds could be changed. I feel stupid I did not notice this before.

I don't know if you've got a surround sound capable receiver in the mix there, but if you do, realise that none of that mumbo-jumbo is going to get you digital surround sound. For that you'd be better served by the cheapest RCA cable or any optical cable directly between your dvd player and receiver on the digital connectors. The downside is of course that as before you would not be able to control the volume with your TV remote. If you don't have a receiver in the mix, nevermind, carry on, nothing more to see here.
