Computer controlling Pioneer DV-F07

Nice forum. I've been browsing for months but finally got the nerve up to post.

Anyway, I have the Pioneer DV-F07 DVD 301 juke box and have found references to controlling it through the RS-232 port on the back. I've found one source (http://www.framerate.com) that provides a utility as an option with their multimedia delivery software but it's primarily for broadcasters and probably costs 10 times as much as what I paid for the player.

My question is; Does anyone have any information on other companies that may provide similiar products?

I'm trying to set my home theater up with all the components hidden in a closet to provide a cleaner, theater type environment. I'm using an HTPC to try and control all the functions but can't figure a way around this one component.

Any info would help and is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

LaserDisc Archive has links to downloads for PC control drivers/programs for Pioneer LaserDisc.

These may or may not work with your version of Windows and the DVD player.

Since most of the basic remote functions work when using most Pioneer LD remotes on a Pioneer DVD player chances are these will work on your DVD player.

You may want to try looking into some home automation websites. I am willing to bet, there are some controllers out there that do what you are discribing, only it may be a proprietary interface You may also want to try Slashdot, or something like that to see if there is a freeware application that you can download. You may also want to contact Pioneer directly and ask them if there is something that you may be able to get from them to controll your Player.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks for the suggestions. The info has led me to a couple of different places and it looks like I might have to do some of the programming myself. I contacted Pioneer and got the pin layout on the RS-232 port and found most of the commands in a pdf on one of their foreign sites.

The software will probably be more work but it looks like a company called Charmed Quark (http://www.charmedquark.com). They provide a very customizable interface for their home automation software and it's try before you buy. I'll get the RS-232 interface made up (unless someone can direct me to a supplier for a 9 pin to 15 pin serial cable) and see what happens.

Again thanks for the assistance.
