New Tv Makes Player Hot

I have been using my DVD receiver (ONKYO DR-L50) for over a year now. With my analog TV. It always used to get a little hot. But was never a bother. I had watched three movies back to back.

YESTERDAY, I bought a new TV, Philips 29PT8321 HDTV-Ready Progressive-capable. I switched my DVD player to progressive and used a Monster component video cable to connect to my new TV. I also
connected the S-Video out to S-Video in. Used another Monster.

It was great till after a couple of hours when a strange smell filled the room. Went to check out, it was emanating from the DVD player/amp. I touched the top surface, it was VERY VERY VERY HOT.

What's happening? Is my DVD receiver dying? Something wrong with the TV?
PLEASE HELP!

I'd speculate that the TV thing is just bad timing. Sounds like you may have fried something in the receiver. I'd take it to a local service cneter and have it checked out.

Approximately how many hours were you using it for?

Is your receiver covered in a blanket?!?!?!?

Sorry, bad joke, is your receiver vented properly? You got a surge protector?

If it's vented properly (as in 3" above and around all vents) and you aren't living in 90 degree heat......see the above post

Or, is it possible the internal fan (assuming it has one) has gone kablooey?

Thanks... is it progressive scan?

Thanks for the replies. The player's got enough ventilation.. there's nothing near it... the fan is working okay and last night it worked fine.
The difference last night was that I had disconnected the S-Video. And switched to interlace. It did not heat up. Is it possible? Tonight I would switch back to Progressive and check. if the bitch heats up... time to go to the service center.
