DVD-A on a 5.1 System

will it even work and if it does, will it sound better than just a regular CD?

DVD-Audio is based around a 5.1channel or more packing system and it sound shitloads better than regular CD's, sometimes even get the original stereo mix in 96kHz 24Bit

I personally dont think it sounds that much better than CD. I have a couple of DVD-As but the thing is they cost twice as much as a regular cd, and definatly dont sound twice as good. IMHO. There was a rather lengthy thread right around the time the DV563a came out about this subject, it might be worth looking into if you care that much.

I would definitely look into upgrading your sound system first. Don't you still have a Panasonic HT in a Box?

You will notice more of a difference with a good sound system, but not with small, weak, satellite speakers.

I would agree that there'd be little to no difference in sound quality on such a system, but if all he's interested in is a multi-channel music experience, his system should be fine. Provided he has multi-channel analog inputs. Brttlt, if what snippy says is the case, some titles would likely sound just like how CD sounds on your system, only mixed in surround, assuming the title is mixed that way.

What little experience I have with DVD-A and SACD's lead me to knowa few things. 1) Equipment does make a difference. 2)It depends on how the DVD-A was mixed. Quite truthfully I have a couple of DVD-A's and SACD's that suck. They sound no better than a cd. Just because it say's multichannel doesn't mean it is better. Let your ears be the judge. If you go to a store like Circuit City then remember they are going to play the best examples they have.

While on the subject, does anyone know of any good websites that have reviews of DVD-A and SACD?
