Is My Hdtv Dying In 15 Days?

My HDTV ready Philips came to my living room just about a fortnight ago. Last night when I switched it on... the picture had less detail. And light yellow and and sometimes even skin tones were white on all channels. I blamed the signal and went to sleep. This morning it was the same. The colours aren't the same. Everything looks downgraded. I loaded a DVD — Lock, Stock and Two Smoking barrels — and problem persists even in Progressive Scan connected thorugh a high-end Component cable. Even people's faces where there's direct light on them glows white. Has anybody had a similar problem? Is it going bad or has it already?

try recalabrating the picture settings. If that doesnt work call Phillips tech support.

I honestly don't know if this will help, but hey, it's worth a shot. Have you unpluged the tv from it's surge protector (you are using one - right?) for a good 1/2 hour and tried pluging it back in? Also, have you swapped out the video cables?

It's weird

I tried Iguana Man's unplug theory. I unplugged it before I left for office and in the evening it was better. But I had also removed my Centre from sitting on my TV's head. So I don't know what made the difference. But it's still not what it used to be. The colours are not as real as they used to be before the problems surfaced. I have called the Philips guys on Tuesday because I'm working this weekend. Will update if they make it work.

(There is also a vertical dark lines on the left side of screen (the side where my DVD player is). It's not visible normally but in darker scenes those vartical parallel ribbons about of about 2 cm width are a tad darker than the rest of the screen.)

Thanks
kam
