What not to do when tying cables...
I have two questions about trying and organizing cables:
1) Should different cables (ex: component cable and power cable) be tied together in the same bundle? Will this cause any type of interference? 2) What works best when tying cables together? What should not be used? Thanks. |

I believe that you are not supposed to tie your power cord in with anything as it has a tendency to produce distortion. With audio you get that annoying sixty hertz hum thing, Im not really sure what happens to the video, but I know its not supposed to be a good idea.
That being said, I run my power and compenant video to my projector and 14 guage speaker wire to my rear surrounds all in the same conduit and I havent had any problems. (However, for some reason when my cell phone goes of I get an anoying clicking sound in my surrounds now, it always happened in my car, but since switched to 14 gauge speaker wire and ran everything over head in the conduit I happens here too )As for what to use, I have always been fond of zip ties. A couple bucks gets you a bag of a couple hundred, and there pretty unobtrusive as long as you cut off the excess.

A word or two about Zip Ties...
I too love the little bastards, but be sure you get yourself a good set of flush cut wire cutters, as Zipties can be DEADLY if you don't take off the whole thing... ![]() j
