Sony KF42WE610- Any opinions?

I'm thinking about getting a modern TV in the near future-
a 16X9 set to go along with my growing DVD collection.
I was trolling through some electronics stores today and
I noticed the Sony LCD projection set, and I was amazed
at the picture. My new TV will have to perform well with
the DVDs (I never watch regular TV). Should I consider this
model, or go smaller and get the 34" XBR set that is getting
good reviews (they are very close in price)? Thanks for your
input.

Send Taxi a PM and ask how he likes his 34" XBR set. I personaly am not impressed with the LCD sets just yet. Their lack of a descent black level is what turns me off. The biggest question, do you have the space? If so, I'd say gt the largest set you can fit, and afford.

Hope this helps...

The direct view sets are really nice they are just really small. Ive never been a fan of any RPTV, I dont think the LCD sets are all the special. If I were in the market for such a set I would probably go with the Samsung DLP.

Thanks for your responses.

Right now I have a 32" Sony, and I have always liked
Sony TVs. My viewing space is pretty small (I sit about
7 feet away from the set), so It probably would be better
to get the 34" XBR set. I think that $2500 is a little too much
to pay for a 34" set. Hopefully the price will come down in
the near future.

Im fairly certain that set can be had for less than $2k...

Check this out.

A nextag search says you can find it for less than $1500. Im sure you can find some good deals if you hunt around.

As well Toshiba makes a very similar set.

the 34" XBR is on sale at circuit city this week for $1999 (or was it best buy, one of the 2). Take into account if you go with that model, the image won't be as tall as a 32" CRT (when watching 4x3 material). The 42" LCD RPTV is just about the same as a 32" with 4x3 (and no, i'm not promoting pan/scan, but I was looking at the exact same tv, but i want to gain more height for old movies, not just the width for 16x9 material.) 46" is the smallest widescreen size you should be considering if you watch a lot of 4x3.

Thanks for the links, Piglet.

You gave me a link to model #KV34HS510, which can be had
for less than $2000. The set I was looking at was the KV34XBR910,
which retails for around $2500, but it's a higher quality model.
The XBR looks like the shit, but is it worth $2500? Also I'll
need to look at furniture options if I buy this set (the stand
that comes with the set wouldn't accomodate my equipment).
Decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the info, videoworx.

Good point about losing height with the 34" widescreen set.
That's probably why it looks small in the store. I'll have to
look into this sale at $1999.
