I knew that mine was dying when it started smoking
![]() My receivers have been pretty bulletproof... I suppose that a receiver might peter out a little bit at a time, but my guess is that the most highly stressed components would most likely blow first... the power supply or the amplification circuit, and at that point the unit would either need to be replaced or repaired to be usefull. I finally got rid of my 15 year old Kenwood receiver that I had in my office. Channels would go out intermittently and the fluorescent display would go out. Mostly it was just corrosion because if I'd slap the chassis it would work ok. I took it apart a few years ago and cleaned as many of the contacts and connectors as possible which just bought a little time. Finally the plastic on some of the console switches was getting brittle so it was time to get rid of it.
The volume levels drifting is pretty good sign that all is not well. |
