Questions about DVD/VCR combos

im looking to replace my old Toshiba HiFi vcr and non progressive scan dvd player for my bedroom and i have a few questions of anybody here that has one (all the ones i have seen have the same vcr coxial cable hook ups and the usual RCA and SVHS plus a choice of coaxial or optical or both digitial) the questions i have are simple

my old dvd player was hooked up to my a/v reciever using a svhs cable and a optical cable, and my vcr was hooked up to the a/v recievers VCR I audio in jacks and the coxial cable to the vcr and from that to the tv. now with the combo do i stil run the usual coxial cables like i would a vcr and run a set of RCA cables from my outputs on the combo to VCR I and a SVHS and a optical or coaxial cable to the DVD/LD inputs on my a/v. I know that if you hook up the combo to a tv like a standard vcr you can play a dvd on it (it has a built in RF modulator 'i have tested this on a display model at wally mart' )

any help would be appriciated, and i still will get a seperate vcr and dvd for the main room this is just for my bedroom the cost of the combo is cheaper than getting a seperate hifi vcr and dvd player

I hate to say it, Dave, but I'm not sure what the question was...

Dave -- I think the best solution would be to look up a specific VCR/DVD combo unit up. Go to that manufacturer's website, and download the product's manual in PDF format. I'm sure you'll be able to get the answers you need from there, if not here first.
