Regarding DVD home recorders with Hard Drive

I am looking to purchase a home DVD recorder that has a built in hard drive. I would like to be able to record a one hour music video show onto the hard drive and then separate each music video from the hard drive and put each one onto the DVD so that each video has its own chapter.

Is there a home dvd recorder that can do this? I would prefer Sony or Panasonic -any reccomendations?

What is your budget? Do you care about TiVo capability?

Peace...

Re: Regarding DVD home recorders with Hard Drive

I'd be willing to spend $500 if the recorder did what I wanted it to do. I'm not interested in Tivo at all. I just want to be able to "chop up" videos that I record onto the hard drive. I would like to be able to make DVDs where you can press the "chapter" button and go from video to video. But since I don't own one of these recorders right now, I don't really understand what flexibility you have in going from the hard drive to DVD.

So, are you looking for a standalone unit that allows DVD editing of some kind or a DVD burner for your PC, where you could edit the video and make DVDs that way? If you go the PC route, you could do more sophisticated editing BUT you would have to provide a way to import the video to your PC for editing.

Be patient as others with more experience than me will post their comments (I hope).

Peace...

Re: Regarding DVD home recorders with Hard Drive

I make DVDs with menus on my home computer all the time but the rendering process (or transcoding) takes a really long time and it ties up my computer for hours and hours. That's why I'm interested in the DVD recorder instead. I just need to have music video DVDs where each one has its own chapter. It sounds pretty simple to me.
