I need to turn of Velocity Scan Modulation , please help .

I have a CN36Z71 Direct View Toshiba Television . Unfortunatly I can't turn off Velocity Scan Modulation via the User Menu like some new TVs allow . I'm sure it can be turned off in the service menu though so I would appreciate any help from anyone as I don't want to be blindly turning something off in that menu .

You may want to visit this site and register. You need to register first before doing a search on your tv.

Thanks . Apparently the VSM is off when the TV is set to Theatre Mode , unfortunatly that mode has it's own Videosettings which means I can't use my Avia settings with that Mode .

If this TV is like their RPTVs then SVM is off in Theater or Movie mode. You can start with this mode and calibrate with Avia changing all of the settings as needed. Then you can save these adjustments as a separate mode called Preference.

That did work however I found that I had to adjust some settings in Normal Mode and then use those values in Theatre Mode , for example setting The Brightness with Avia in Theatre Mode gave me a value that was much too high .

I'm not following you. If you select theater mode this starts off with SVM off and this modes presets for color, tint, blah, blah.... Now if calibrate with Avia while in Theater mode how can it be any brighter than if you start with the Normal values copied to Theater mode and calibrate with Avia. Also what values do you think were too high and why? If you calibrate with Avia then those are the correct values. You might not like the PQ with these settings but they are correct and not too high or too low.

Ah yeah my mistake , they are not too bright and high . I guess I wasn't used to the different look they lack of VSM gave me. I think I was thrown off by how my Digital Satellite system looks with VSM turned off , the fact that they use a high compression rate becomes more apparent now . DVD looks terrific however , I now notice details I haven't before .

I really don't know why they put that in the first place. If I ever get my own TV I will make sure it is one where I can turn off VSM in the User Menu.
