Hlp-4674w

So my HLN-4365W turned out to be a lemon. After having it serviced four times with no improvement (streaks in the screen, lip synch) Samsung graciously chose to replace it with the higher end HD2+ based HLP-4674W. I'm thrilled and can't wait for the white glove service to deliver it. I'm expecting the unit to arrive in about two weeks.

Does anyone here have one of the HLP-4674Ws? I've been reading about it over at the AVSForum and the reports all sound good. My assessment is that the HLP-xx74W units are arguably the best DLP sets Samsung sells right now, even besting the 85 series according to some (and to my own eyes since the 74 series looked much better in every retail environment where I was able to compare the two.)

Sorry to hear about your lemon Surf. Yoy might want to try the Home Theater Spot and check out their manufacture specific forums. Unfortunately, since we only cary the one line of Samsung, I can't give you an opinion on it. I will say that my bosses 50" looked pretty good, for a DLP

Ha! Nice dig on DLP.

I don't like LCD because of the screen door effect. Plasma looks great but the price is high and burnin/overhead are the downside that I can't live with. Ditto for CRT based RPTVs. The HLP-4674W has a stunning HD image, excellent DVD and passible standard broadcast. I'm not bothered by rainbows and the dithering thing only really impacts broadcast IMO. The lack of burnin and convergence problems is a major selling point as well. Side by side, the 74 series DLPs are a cut above everything else on the market in the 3 - 4k range to my eye.

My HLN went down to the two board lip synch fix. They tried three sets of analogue and digital boards in it with no change. Samsung was amazingly accommodating with me though. After a flurry of calls about the ongoing problems they escalated it to their national service senter where the rep upgraded me to the HLP 74 series at no cost.

I was also upgraded by Samsung for service issues last September. I went from a 1st gen HLM617W to a HLP6163W and have been very pleased with the new display. The great part is my HLM was already 18 months old when they replaced it with a HLP.

Good to hear. My experience with Samsung was really top notch. They offered to upgrade my set much sooner than I would have expected. Samsung actually offered to replace my HLN with a 63 series HLP but I turned it down because of the lack of 1:1 pixel mapping at 720p. The guy immediately offered to wave the extra cost of the 74 series and set up shipping on one. They've certainly earned my loyalty.
