BEtter for DTS: COAX or Optics?

Just wondering. I think my coax cable is dead, because my receiver isn't picking up the digital signal from my DVD player and automatically moving to a DTS output. If I have to get a new cable, I figure I might as well make sure COAX is better. Otherwise it's new receiver time.

It doesn't matter. Bits are bits

Make sure you have DTS enabled on your DVD player

Although a really crappy Coax cable does have a tendency to occasionally drop your signal, or not work at all. Optical cables tend to be cheaper and will deliver the same signal.

I agree with Sword....I don't feel there is a difference except that the optical is supposed to be less prone to 'interferance', but at the same time it is more 'fragile'. Fragile meaning you gotta be careful not to bend it too much or let it get crimped.

If you think your wiring scheme out before you do so, and plan not to go around super sharp turns with the optical then it's not a problem, I like the digital because it's now not as expensive as it used to be and for my needs sounds the best.

It's true that no one really knows if one is better than the other as there is no technological prove .

I think perhaps if you're going with cheap cables an optical might be better but I wouldn't recommend going with cheap cables anyway , unless of coarse you just have a cheap Home Theatre System then it really won't matter .

Unfortunatly there is no way for us to know wether your problem is caused by the cable or the receiver as either one could potentially be the culprit . If the cable does not appear to be damaged and you don't recollect doing anything in particular to it the fault could be with the equipment .

What kind of a receiver is it anyway ?

I'd go with Toslink Coaxial cable, it's your best bet.

Seriously though with DTS it doesn't really matter due to the way it is packeted and isn't susceptible to jitter like PCM/CD.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a Toslink Coaxil cable . I believe Toslink is another term for an Optical cable .

As I mentioned it doesn't matter which one he goes for , both will do just fine if they are of good quality .

I would be most concerned with finding out if the problem is even caused by the cable .

"Seriously though..." was the clincher....

Those that know Ruined understand he's got a dry wit about him. However, I also know that I am truely misunderstood around here and am striving to make amends for this tragic injustice.

DD or DTS, it makes no difference. All you need to know is here.
