Speakers: Any DIY people around?

Hey, I plan on replacing the drivers in both living room speakers. That's right, the old "White Van" speakers are getting redone! Save your bashing folks....they've served me well for many years

Anyway, here's the deal. The two speakers have the following dimensions: H-27", W-15" and D-12". Here's a pic .

Now I could buy new speakers, but it's the living room and belive it or not, I love the fact the speaker cabinets match my TV stand. The fake woodgrain on both are identical. Besides, I've always wanted to delve into a project like this and I'm not looking to have audiophile sound out there....so, lets move on.

I'm looking at the following drivers:

Woofer

Mid

Tweeter

I figure the sound has got to be an improvement, and the improvement I'm looking for is tighter bass, better mids, and a bit more revealing highs. I wan't party type speakers and while that may seem odd for such a nice TV, this again is the living room where critical listening is not on the agenda...beer drinking, football, SRV, and regular ol TV watching is the main attraction.

Here's my question for those DIY folks: Do you think the respective crossovers and spl's match for all all 3 drivers? It seems the 'overlap' of freqs is ok for all 3, but what about the actual crossover? I gotta buy a crossover and that's where I know squat. Help! Are crossovers adjustable? Do I get a crossover that is fixed, and if so, which one would match the specs of the drivers above?

I wasn't looking at the cost, but moreso the same brand of drivers that would fit with the least amount of mods to the existing cabinets (ie: existing cutouts)

Pioneer Junkie is a reserved comment by the way. It's reserved for that Kat who comes around every now and again spewing all the comments/responses I wish I was capable of.

So...I am seriously looking for comments on this crossover stuff, so please don't make me post a link to this Mr. Smarty Pants! ( )

Iggy, man it would be so much easier to buy Axioms in a custom finish. They will send you a sample of whatever finish you want for free and you can make sure to pick one that matches. Here is the link to the custom finishes:

http://axiomaudio.com/customshop.html

There are some DIY speaker sites around, I can't think of them off hand however.

Thanks Snip....I knew you would show up sooner or later!

Well, for $150 + 2 crossovers I get to have some fun and like I said, I could buy speakers, but don't care to right now. Hey, if they sound like crap, I can still buy new and Axiom will be a consideration should that happen.
