WinDVD 6 Gold trouble.

I have WinDVD 6 Gold on my PC. I have had it for about two weeks and everything has been great.

Now however, I seem to be getting this warbling effect with the audio. Video playback is still perfect, so I really don't know what's going on. I thought maybe my speakers were fucked or blown, so I opened up iTunes, and the audio played fine so it is not the speakers.

It's really very annoying; and especially obvious when dialog is present. I have tried three DVDs to the same avail.

Star Trek: TOS - S2: D4
Knife In the Water - CC
Underworld - DC

I have tried rebooting, and I have reinstalled the program as well.

Any suggestions?

i don't know if gold (i have the platinum edition) has the audio booster pack - if so, disable any effects processing, and just set it to stereo, with no EQ/SRS/etc settings or anything...

also, play a dvd in windows media player, and see if you get the same audio issues...

Okay so it isn't WinDVD, it is the DVD drive itself. I tried it in WMV and get the same audio problem, yet my iTunes and all else play fine.

Is this something that can be corrected? or do I need a whole new DVD-ROM drive? Or do I just need to download an audio driver?

It's not the drive. This would be some kind of software issue.

it wouldn't hurt to look for updated sound drivers, but the issue wouldn't just pop out without something having caused it...usually it's software installation (possibly a video/audio codec that is conflicting or over-riding something with DirectSound??). It would help if you listed your windows version (and service pack), sound card, etc...

What software is involved? Remember, I am not as nerdy on the computer front. Once we get outside Windows, IE, and MicroSoft Office, I know jack.

It obviously is effecting both "software" WMV AND WinDVD. So where should I turn to next?

Is there something in the control panel that will tell me all these things you ask?

you'd get the sound card type in your device manager (right-click MY COMPUTER, select properties, select DEVICE MANAGER in the HARDWARE tab, then see what brand name you see in SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS)...

but, you not being computer savvy, and me not wishing to rip my hair out..i will go hunting in some geeky forums for the solution to your problem...don't kill yourself trying to fix it just yet...

Did you install anything recently? Possibly even some DVD-ROM content?

i'm sticking with directsound/directx issues on this one (or your speakers are underwater...)

did you install any games or audio/video codecs (in order to watch porn, for instance) recently?

Not intentionally, if I did.
