Where to buy receiver in Detroit area?

I'm going to Detroit shortly and I'm looking to buy a Panasonic SA-XR55K. I checked BestBuy.com, CircuitCity.com, and RadioShack.com and came up empty. Can anyone recommend any other stores in the Detroit area that sells receivers? If there's any other major chains that might carry this receiver, I'd like to hear about them too.

Thanks!

Unfortunately not. I'm from Canada and the hotel I'm staying at won't accept packages to guests that aren't checked in. I could order it and cross my fingers and hope it'll arrive during my three days in Detroit, but if I'd prefer not to take the chance.

Amazon does have a pretty sweet deal on those right now, so if all else fails I think I'll order it from them and have it shipped to a buddy in the states. He can then ship it to me. Even with the additional shipping it'd be cheaper than buying it locally.

Wouldn't you have it shipped to your residence in Canada? Or did you want to take it with you across the border or something?

Peace...

A couple of reasons for not shipping it to me:
Amazon won't ship electronics to Canada.

And if I ordered it from another e-tailer I'd get hit HARD with both shipping charges, as well as flat fee customs charges and then taxes on top of that. After all that I might as well buy locally.

It's not that it's not available here, but because of changes to both our currency rates lately, it can be a lot cheaper to buy stuff in the U.S. than here. Retail prices simply haven't kept up.

For example, Amazon charges USD $230 for that receiver. Here in Canada I'd have to pay CAD $400, which comes out to about USD $345. So if I could find it someplace in Detroit, I'd save about $100.

I hope this isn't the wrong thing to ask, but why is this particular avr the one you want?

Just curious since maybe something else is available at those stores that is equal or maybe 'better' at the same price?

That's a valid point, and I probably should do some research based on what's available there.

The reason I'm all gung-ho about that receiver is that there's a lot of hardcore audiophiles over at avsforum.com that are really drooling over it. One reviewer even said he had replaced his $1000 NAD receiver with this little Panasonic that could.

From where I'm sitting that sounds pretty good. But yeah, I should check out some other models too.

Wow! That sounds interesting.

Well...I actually called one of the places near Detroit who were listed as a Panny dealer (Adray ) and they don't carry it.

However, what about SEARS? You gotta type in Detroit MI to get a list.

Wow. Thanks for the effort man! You really shouldn't go out of your way though. I was just hoping maybe someone here was from the Detroit area and had some insider knowledge that would be hard to glean from the net. But I really do appreciate it.

It wasn't a big deal dude...a quick Google search, a toll free #, and that was that. I'd write down those phone #'s for SEARS and call when you get to Detroit. You might get lucky.
