That look's like its a 4:3 TV and a not a WS 16:9 screen. Are you looking for a WS or a FS HDTV?
If not i know nothing really about tv's but i too know i want a new HDTV

my comment is this that is if you can spend the extra money, i think samsung currently makes the best TVs and i wish they made a 34 inch widescreen monitor because i would of bought one, instead i went with an old favorite and bought the Panasonic widescreen 34 inch and i love it, definately get a widescreen monitor, we all know how many movies we all watch, probably more than TV, so definately worth it

Yep, it's 4:3. We don't even get expanded basic cable - just the basic basic cable ($10/mo)
The only thing I'll be using that's high-def is when I get an HD-DVD player... which will be Quarter 2 of Two Thousand Neverteen, and my XBox 360. The only watching we do is the occasional TV show (4:3) and a widescreen movie. Now, I'd love to go with a 32" HDTV, but my entertainment center is only 31" wide. That is a serious flaw, but one I can't really afford to put to the test, anyway, so I don't really care. If and when I can afford a hyooge TV, I'll be able to replace the center. So, unless anyone has any major objections to the model I posted, I'll probably be getting it... as soon as Mrs. Enzian lets me. Which could be never. Only she knows.

If it has a 16:9 squeeze mode, I see no problem with it.
![]() If you can, go down to Circuit City and get a demo of a HD feed on this TV and see how it looks. See if you get letterbox bars, etc. It's got a built-in HD tuner and HDMI input so you're set there. The only real question is how does HD actually look on it and does it have a 16:9 squeeze mode. Peace...

Why not look at getting a LCD monitor? Then you can probably cram a 32" screen in your existing entertainment center. And it will be 16:9.
I wouldn't waste money on anything not 16:9, otherwise you're going to be stuck in a corner in the near future and have to buy again. Plus you can plug your PC into it.

It does have a squeeze mode. The HD looks great!
LCD is too expensive. I hate to part with money. It's gonna be sitting in an entertainment center - I don't care how thick it is. Plus, I like the contrast and picture of ol' fashioned tube screens when it comes to small rooms. 16:9 would be great - but like I said, we don't watch much in 16:9, just the occasional movie. Most of our watching is broadcast TV. I can stomach letterboxed movies (in 1080i) better than I can windowboxed television shows. I like the built-in tuner because there's no way I'll pay for HD cable or satellite. With the right antenna rig, I should be able to pull in the major network's HD broadcasts for free. Yes, it is 31.3". I know. The doors of the entertainment center swing open and slide back, and there's some flex in those pine doors. I'm wagering I can wedge it in there. Worst case scenario - I yank the doors out. Not a pretty option, but it's there. Maybe I can plane the doors down... hmm. I know a woodshop that would do that for near free.

well, if your looking at something smaller than 30 inches, Samsung also makes a 26" 16:9 TV that would fit on your stand

That's right folks, our very own NZN is choosing a 4:3 HDTV over a 16:9 one and for good reason. ![]() Peace...

I watch 4:3 content on my 16:9 in "Full" mode, and I rarely notice anything "weird" about the image. I used to use the "Wide Zoom" of my TV, where the edges are stretched out and the center is left alone, but I went back to Full because I didn't really mind the (minimal) stretching of the image. I feel it's worth it to watch WS DVDs on a WS TV.
But, everybody's tastes are different, and the fact that your 4:3 can still do the 'ol Squeeze Trick is kinda cool. ![]() |

Here are a couple pics showing you our tiny den and the situation.
Those pics are over 2MB each. You've been warned.

What's the problem? Move those kids out of the way and there's plenty of room.

Why aren't they down in the basement making leather wallets or sewing rugs?

While she does enjoy the crossword, for the record, she's doing a sudoku. They're infectious, in a very Minesweeper way.
I have my DVDs hanging from a wall-mounted rack, and that bottle of Windex is mine - there's another one (without the no-drip formula) under the sink. I wipe down the monitors, components and television so much, it's earned the right to hang from the DVD rack. When my wife and I were dating, she noticed how much I Windex'd everything. I lived in Wyoming at the time and it's a dusty place. I also had glass-topped furniture, so... She put that very bottle of Windex in my Christmas stocking. ============== But here's the update I'm most happy to give. (Monkus is the less hirsute of the two)
