I just bought a HDTV

Well so much for me and saying "Maybe i will hold out for an SED TV and then buy an HDTV then" Ok so ever since i bought my XBox360 i have wanted an HDTV to showcase my system (ok i wanted one for a long time) I have an RCA 25 inch stereo TV and have noticed the picture going on it and not great for playings dvds/games on. I have the TV covered but could take up to 2 months to get it or a replacement tv back. I can't wait that long and i thought it was time to update (and get the tv fixed, give to my sisters) So after about 1 1/2 hours of looking and asking questions i bought this baby

Hitachi 50V525 LCD TV

I got it for $2499.99 at Future Shop and it comes with the stand, 5.1 Yamaha Surround Sound System (which i shall try to sell) and a free year of HD Cable service. Came to about $3,300 with taxes and 3 year service plan and i get it on Saturday the 28th

Did i do well?

There's no picture on the screen. You should get that checked out. What Yamaha sound system did you get? You might want to consider maybe using it for a bedroom sound system...

PS, oh, and...

YOU BASTARD!

Sounds like you got a hell of a deal. I am hoping for some good tax money this year. I want another projector, or Porjection TV. I miss my 9' Screen

I'm getting close to buying a HDTV, probably a 32" Samsung (LE32R41B/LE32R51B). I would like a bigger one as I've had my Sony 32" for several years, but it's £500 more for their 40" model and I don't know if it's worth it yet.

With the release of HD-DVD and Blu-ray and talks of a native 1080 resolution arriving in both output and input terms, is it worth waiting altogether?

Suh-weet!

Does it have a HDMI input? What reslutions does it support? Is 720p its native resolution?

Peace...

You should trade it in for this, or some equivalent.

Congrats!!! You are impatient, and I commend you!

Well it says it does Virtual HD - 1080P processing. Huh?

Further, on page 11 of the manual it states: Only DTV formats such as 1080i, 720p, 480i and 480p are available for HDMI input.

I'm guessing that means it can upscale to 1080P, but will leave that answer to the likes of 'DKat'.

I haven't read any reviews yet, but it sure looks like a nice set, and given the stand and other extras it sounds like a great deal.

Again....Congrats!

EDITED: DOH! Tom...read me! I type to damn slow!

Add me to the thread title!

An offer came up today, so I have ordered the Samsung LE32R41B and a Samsung DVD-HD850. I wanted to upgrade my TV size from 32", but it was quite a jump in price above that and I'm a bit limited for room at the moment.

The TV has a HDMI input, among others, and the DVD player has a HDMI output and comes with a HDMI-HDMI lead. The player up-converts current DVDs to 720p/1080i. Full specs can be found at the links below.

I wasn't fussed about getting the DVD-HD950, as I don't buy SACDs or DVD-Audio discs, so it didn't seem worth the extra cost with true HD-DVD & Blu-ray launching soon.

LCD TV:

DVD Player:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/d...Specifications

I also get a one year extended warranty through my credit card company when the manufacturer's one ends.

Well i don't need the system really. I'm happy with my Marantz SR 4300 receiver. The Yamaha HTiB i get with the tv already has a potential buyer from me. The Union Projectionist said he will probably buy it off me for $300-350 (once i find out the actual price. Don't want to rip him off being a nice guy) So yeah for me and getting an even better deal on the TV bundle really.

Oh and here is a link to the details on my TV from Hitachi.ca

The advantage of the receiver I linked to is that it has 3 component in/1 out, DVI in, 2 HDMI in/1 HDMI out, and a 3 different zones. So it upconverts everything via the HDMI and has 6 different video inputs, better than pretty much any consumer level product uner $1,000.

Congrats Bob!

When does it arrive?

I'm jealous; I finally jumped on the HD bandwagon, but mine is only 26" (big enough for my tiny apartment...). I'm still loving it though.

Just out of curiosity, who is the cable provider that you get a year free from? I got the same promotion with my TV, from Rogers, but I don't think Rogers exists in Burlington. Is it Cogeco?

Not a bad HTIB, as far as HTIBs go btw... At least it comes with a real receiver, instead of the all-in-1 ones that you're lucky if you get more than 1 additional input.

It's suppose to arrive at the store on Saturday Jan 28th around 6pm (didn't want to spend an extra $50 for delivery . . .spent too much already) Yeah i did get the full year of the Roger's HD Cable and like you said sadly i live in Burlington and Cogeco is our provider (only a 5 minute drive from my house) So I shall be checking up on pick up to see if something can be done about that.

Yeah its not too bad indeed and its funny because they tried to see if i wanted this Yamaha 1-Disc Home Theatre System (DVXS301S) instead. The system i'm getting is on back order but they had like 8 or 9 of these systems in store and was told "You can bring this home with you today instead of waiting for the other system" I saw it was the dvd player/receiver all in one and just passed on it right away. Knew they are pretty crappy to have and even though i wasn't going to keep the HTiB system i thought the person i sell it too should at least have an ok system and options to use

Yep, I gave my mom one of those as a Christmas gift in 2004. Actually, it's a sibling of the one mentioned above.

Peace...

Well it was a good day and a bad day for me. Sadly this afternoon my guinea pig died shortly after i left to pick up my tv. (lost mobility in his legs and body. He was 4 1/2 years old though too. Oldest one we have had) I was so frustrated and upset that i completely screwed up my free Hitachi Stand for my tv (partical board split when i placed the wrong size screw into the side legs and bottom shelf/support)

Still i did pick up my tv and have been able to get the tv upstairs into my room (with help from my best friend. It was a fun 5-7 minutes of twisting, lifting, swearing and relief just to gt it up the stairs alone) The free surround sound system i was suppose to get was out of stock so they gave me an option to pick another set they had to offer. Two of them were different Yamaha systems (receiver with either a 1-disc or 5-disc built in) or a Sony upon box item still in working condition. I took the open box Sony system in the end because it was not a 5.1 system but a 6.1 DD-EX, DTS-ES and PLIIx receiver and speaker package (my receiver i have now doesn't have PLIIx on it but i will stick with my Marantz receiver in the end)

I took some pictures of my TV setup (still working on it) and with some screen shots. Sadly i took them with the lights off and all have either a blur flash or grainy look. So i shall hopefully take some newer/better pics tomorrow after my poker to post for everyone. All i have to say is WOW!!! For my XBOX 360 games. Kameo, CoD2, PDZ and PGR3 are such a HUGE Visual difference running it in 720p. Plus i watched some Finding Nemo and The Incredibles and i swear The Incredibles looks better on my tv then it did in theaters (though it was about 2 months into its run)

So i'm VERY HAPPY with my purchase and yet sad for my lose of a great pet.

Congrats on the TV!

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig and TV stand...

I know what you mean with The Incredibles, PGR3, and COD2... all I have to say is WOW to all three of those on an HD display. The Incredibles DVD is probably the best 480p image I have ever seen.

The 360 has a few more jaggies than I was expecting, but otherwise everything looks fantastic.

And if you're looking for a sweet looking, nice, crisp, vivid, HD image... Geometry Wars! I think it looks fantastic.

Enjoy your TV!

Well i was ready to take some pics tonight but sadly i only got one taken before my battery died on the camera. So here is a taste of my tv (better lighting should also help out as well. Room light not that good)

So hopefully soon i will have a charged battery, good lighting and maybe an HDTV Cable box all set out for some actual good pictures to show.
