HDMI/DVI switching receiver.

Are they going to be more prevalent and wanted by you? It seems these may be the way to go in the all to near future...No?

With all the new sources using HDMI coming out, I think it's a must. But I'm probably going to hold off until there are some receivers with the 1.3 spec in them. No sense dropping a lot of money till all the features are finally there. And yeah, I think they'll be very prevalent in the future. With the format war over optical HD sources, some form of HDMI switching is going to be more in demand. I'm sure receiver manufacturers will be wanting to jump on the bandwagon in offering them.

Most current HDMI devices use the 1.1 spec. The 1.2 spec was approved last August and is on most new devices. 1.2 adds support for things such as sacd and some other stuff minor stuff. 1.3 adds support for multichannel lossless audio formats such as Dolby True HD. I believe 1.2 will allow 2 channel lossless formats (though don't quote me on that), but you'll need something with the 1.3 standard to support 5.1 or higher in the lossless formats. Till they hit the streets, analog is your only choice for those formats. So I have a hard time dropping $2000+ on a new receiver until it can decode all the new formats.

My Denon 3805 is definitly stick around till the standards get worked out, as noted. No point jumping on to the HDMI band wagon when no one knows where it'll get finally standardized.

are they still talking about changing the shape of the plug for 1.2, i remember quite a while back that was a big part of the discussion, claiming the 1.1's tended to slide out of their slots
