The End of DLP Rainbows?

Just thought that some would be interested in this article. I didn't see that anyone had posted it yet. If I am wrong, please accept by sincerest apology.

The end of DLP rainbows...Akai and Samsung

If this article is true, I can't wait to see what the price difference is going to be and if they are going to just put LED bulbs in all their DLPs. I have always been under the assumption that LEDs were cheaper to make and lasted longer...does anyone know if this is true?

I've heard of this before . I personally never saw the Rainbow effect but for those who do this is bound to be good news . I hope these new DLP will also once again achieve better Contrast .

Hey man, that's good news for folks like me! Even better still, is the last sentence which states;

Quote:
the HL-S5679W offers integrated ATSC and NTSC tuners as well as dual HDMI inputs that support 1080p sources.
I hope that support and accepts are one in the same.

The price difference between this year's Samsung models is $4199 for the 56" HL-S5679W with LEDs vs. $3199 for the 56" HL-S5687W with a traditional bulb. The LEDs are supposed to last 20,000 hours. The down side is that they aren't easily replaceable, so when it does come time to change the LED array, you're looking at the cost for a service call plus the cost of the new array, at which point you almost might as well buy a new set. This is just the first generation though, so hopefully they'll come up with a more user serviceable way to handle this in the future.
Oh, and all of this year's Samsung DLP's claim to support a 1080p input over HDMI. I say claim to because the sets don't actually come out till April, so we won't know for sure till then.

According to Samsung all of their 2006 1080p DLP models accept a 1080p input. But we'll know for sure when the sets hit the market in April. I've been seriously considering getting the new 61" 1080p model from them, but I'm waiting to see what the final verdict on the 1080p input issue is. That and I'm on the fence about the whole wobbulated chip issue.
