Projector Owners Unite! Hardware Live MSN chat(s)

I just sent a couple of PMs to people around the forum who own projectors asking a few questions about thier hardware and opinions on some of the toys I am intending on buying.

The live MSN chats have been dead for about a year now, and I was thinking it would be great to get back together for at least one more and instead of discussing a film, everyone who owns a projector or wants to know more about PJs could get together and chat about the pros and cons of their models. The discussion would probably branch off into all areas of home theater gear.

Its just about go-time for me and my theater room (finally) and I'd like all the input I could get. Even if there were just 3-5 projector/higher end HT owners chatting about their hardware, I think that would be a great fountain of knowledge for a proj-noob like myself.

what do you think ? should we give the live chats one more go ?

I think it will all depend on when you want to do it. If it is around 5P PST, then I'm game

Esc and Iguana,

I wanted to go ahead and post this to see if this helps you and if Iggy agrees or has anything to add since we don't have a live chat yet.

The first thing I want to note is that both of these PJs have lens shift which you really, really want. That feature has been a life saver!

Sanyo Z4:
Brightness: 1000 ANSI
Contrast: 7000:1
Lens Shift: Yes
Compatibility: HDTV /1080i / 720p / 575i / 575p
HDMI (HDCP): Yes
Resolution: 1280x720 Pixels
Native: 16x9
Price: $1800 and up

Sony HS60:
Brightness: 1200 ANSI
Contrast: 10000:1
Lens Shift: Yes
Compatibility: HDTV /1080i / 720p
HDMI (HDCP): Yes
Resolution: 1280x720 Pixels
Native: 16x9
Price: $2700 and up.

So, from what I can tell, if you pay the extra money for the Sony, you are getting a brighter PJ with better contrast. On the other hand, if the room your HT is in is light controlled, this won’t make a huge difference. My HT is completely light controlled and my Z2 only has 800 lumens and a 1300:1 contrast and my picture is plenty bright.

My opinion would be to go with the Sanyo and use the extra cash to buy one of the new HD players so you can take advantage of the HDMI. The Sony is a smidge better, but I can’t see paying an extra thousand.

On the other hand, if you get the Z4, Iggy and I will be so jealous that we'll be forced to kill you.

Since we are on this topic, where do you guys (Z2 owners) keep your sharpness set? If I remember correctly, DVE has you turn it almost completely down.

I just found a hell of a deal from a Canadian supplier on the projector I am 99% sure that I am getting, so lets make this chat happen soon. when this week is good for people? I should be good Tuesday the 14th, Thursday the 16th, or even any time in the eveing on Sunday the 12th (tomorrow).

lets say 6 or 7pm Mountain time on one of those days.

PH - I just read my post(s) above and all I can say is I haven't a clue as to what I was saying.

Ok, it's only 7pm for me, I may make a an effort to reach sobriety in the next 2 hours....ESC (or anyone) care to tell me how to gimp into the fray?

Yeah, it's tougher than people think to get a large group together all at the same time.

Too bad.
