Panasonic to release 103" plasma TV!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060419/ap_on_hi_te/big_tv

Quote:
NEW YORK - Home TV screens just keep getting bigger. And there's no end in sight. Panasonic pitched a tent outside the New York Stock Exchange yesterday to show off the biggest high-definition plasma screen yet.

At 103 inches, it's an inch bigger than versions being produced by Samsung and LG.

Panasonic vice president Andrew Nelkin says the new screen weighs 400 pounds. If you buy one, and have a wall big enough to fit it, you'll want professional installation.

He also says he wouldn't be surprised to see someone come up with an even bigger screen before long.
Will PJs soon be a thing of the past?

Wow! 103"

I don't think PJs will be replaced since PJs give you flexibility a TV doesn't.

Peace...

Unlikely. Once I get a pj bright enough with 1080p, and enough wall space, I want to do a 200in screen, and it'll still cost 5-10k less than that thing, and weight a small fraction of it.

Actually a technology I hear about long ago called "Smart Paint"(I think) could replace projectors. It's the material inside video cell phones, it could be made to any size and is totally flexible, imagine wallpapering your room with it!

isnt that 20 inches bigger than the largest plasma. as far as i knew, the largest plasma out there right now was 80 inches. am i incorrect? I dont why you would want a TV that big, the weight and support necessary for it, you cant easily move it, whats the benefit, as some have said, not nearly as flexible and the cost, id rather spend money on a PJ

I don't know how often people move any TV 50" and larger once they are in position so I don't consider the movement aspect an issue.

One benefit of a TV over a PJ is the dakrness requirement. A colleague at work chose a 62" TV over a PJ since they didn't want to have to deal with light issues.

Another benefit is the sheer coolness factor of having a TV that friggin huge!

Peace...
