Are You A Audiophile or Videophile?

I am just curious what you consider yourself. I have noticed that a lot of you have projectors and harp on video. While I do like video and will stand by my CRT HDTV and defend CRT video quality over any technology, I love audio. I would like to have a projector however I don't have a dedicated room for it and my viewing distance is only 7 ft. Also I don't have a projector because I keep falling in love with audio products. I have had 2 different receivers. First was HTIB Panisonic and the second was my current is a Yamaha stand alone. I have also have had 3 different speaker sets and subs. I am soooooo happy with my Athena's and MY SVS. And you know all about my diy room treatments. So know I am is love with this set up from Emotiva Ultra Theatre Series. I have always wanted a pre and pro amp set-up. I am holding out for there second gen Pre amp that will have HDMI 1.3 with internal decoding of Dolby True-HD and DTS Master HD which will be released in quarter 3 of this year which I can't buy this until Christmas and the price remains $899 and I can get a BD player at around $300 I will be in audio heaven.
Also I am ordering some SACD's so I kind of hope BD wins so my SACD's do not become obsolete. I am just so OCD when it comes to audio. But enough about me I want to here from you all and what you like the most and how critical you can be of audio and video quality.

For me, it's more about the sound, but only by a little bit.

I had a much better sound system for my HT before I even got a HDTV.

But that isn't to say that video is not important, becuase it is.

Well for me it was always about the audio before the video. I had a surround sound system years before i had an HDTV. Sure it was a bit cheaper to get at first but it brings me more into the movies then the video does. Sure i love the great picture quality but its the sound that does it for me. Nothing like n awesome explosion playing through the speakers with the subwoofer knocking things off you wall at the same time. I would like to see PQ do that

I guess I more fall under videophile. As when I truely started this insane hobby, I had an ok surround system, but I said projector first, and the rest shall follow. I now have a kickass audio system as well, but I think I tend to be more picky about video, so yeah, videophile.

Considering that we still have a 27" TV, I'll have to say that I'm more of an audiophile. It's more the fact that we also enjoy music, and saw a better investment with the audio side. On the other hand, our Wega has an excellent picture, it's just not big. If we don't start work on the basement soon, I can envision a new HDTV in the living room by the end of the year. If we do finish the basement, picture quality will be a big factor in which projector we select.

Me too.

Though I'm also a geek, I love the technology. Currently my sound is far better than my projector, but I'm happy enough with my situation. Plus I'm always upgrading.

If If I had to choose, I guess I’d say I’m more of a videophile. I think since cinema is a visual art form, picture should come first. And, ya know, I could enjoy Chaplin with no speakers…

While I do believe you could enjoy Chaplin with no speakers, live music almost was always played at the theatre. That still doesn't mean your point was well taken.

I'll reply but cannot vote since I seem to allow for both. Not the 'extreme' versions of audio/video-phile, but maybe close is how I'd classify myself.

I basically see myself as flip-flopping between the audi and video 'phile' while building my HT. Went from a decent PJ to a great pair of speakers, to a great DVD player and back to a great sub. So it was always improvements that complimented both audio and video. New PJ, ISF calibration, yadda yadda.

So I'd like to think I'm both as far as my HT goes. Hell, I even added tubes to mt HT for stereo listening only. Maybe that pushes me into the audiophile catergory more? I dunno.

But back to flip flopping...ergo my living room. Here I went video over audio and I really mean that given I'm still running Pro-Logic out there with speakers bought from the back of a Van! I got HD-DVD but weak sound to say the least.

Put a gun to my head, I'd probably say audio, but not by a whole lot given my viewing/listening habits of late.

I've always been more of a videophile then anything else. I guess that is why I choose to get a HD-dvd player and a Blu Ray player before even considering upgrading my audio (which it desperately needs). I guess I will always put more money into the video part then the audio.
