Epson Powerlite 1080p Projector

Quote:
Many high definition game and movie enthusiasts, myself included, have been waiting patiently for a native 1080p (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) projector to hit the market at a bearable price-point. Sure, big screen 1080p televisions are great, but there's nothing like watching an HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc, or playing an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 game on "the big screen."

Today Epson granted our wishes by announcing the PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 will come in at an SRP of $2999, meaning actual retail prices could be several hundred dollars less. The relatively low price doesn't translate to low quality or feature skimping either as this puppy boasts HDMI 1.3 support to match perfectly with Playstation 3, 3-chip 3LCD technology, and a handsome 12,000:1 contrast ratio.

Better yet, Epson promises to put these in stores sometime next month

This is great news. Another year, and I see myself getting a 1080p PJ.

Wait till they come out for $25. Then I see myself with one.

See other thread about me being cheap.

But, it's LCD

Sorry, not a big fan of the digital tech anyway, but LCD is not what I would call a great leap in quality...

Some of the new LCD stuff looks really nice, especially for the money.
I would bet this projector will be in the $1000 range within a year as the better 1080p projectors jocky into the sub $5000 range themselves.

LCD can provide an excellent picture given the right environment. LCD has improved just like DLP over the years. Plasma too for that matter (burn in being almost obsolete).

What display type leap are you refering to or looking for?

I'm not sure why LCD gets a bad rap. My Z2, properly calibrated, looks fantastic. I don't think it looks "digital" at all. I could see a PJ with bad SDE getting that response, but not a good one like Sanyo or Panasonic. I'd put the Z models against any DLP in the price range.

I suspect Chally is referring to CRT pj's. They still win on blacks, but that gap is closing in as LCD/DLP/LcOS advance.
